    Engine mounts ?.
If you are spending too much on parts you are sourcing your stuff from the wrong places or your mechanic is planning on a early retirement

vibrations Not of the good varity

I find it amazing that after fifty odd pages of collective grief that an answer to a very general problem has not come to light.
I have the same problem but mine is general rumble type vibration from low speed all the way to 100 ks. per hour.
Today I removed the tail shaft and the rumble went away. NOW WHERE DO I GO?
I wonder if Land Rover Australia has an answer?
    I have a 1999 TD5 auto and am starting to wish I hadn't.

More than 5 years old (out of warranty) LRA will not be interested!
Tailshaft off narrows it down to rear diff/axle/pinion bearings. Possibly Crown wheel not mounted flat on the carrier?

Yes , I found that out when I bought my D2. I went into a Geelong LR dealer and asked for a paint touch up pen.
I was told in fairly basic language what you just said above.
I have never gone back to them and now deal with a very good independent LR mechanical team in the same town.

As an added thought, have you had the tailshaft balanced? Way back in the dark ages I bought a Vauxhall EIP cheap, because of a vibration. Later found out that a balance weight had come off the shaft.

Funny you should say that. I was giving the tail shaft that I had laying on my garage floor, a wash in some petrol to remove some grease around the universal joint and noticed a scrape on it.
First thing tomorrow it is going in to be spun in a lathe and balanced.

Yes replaced mine with a new one chasing the same engine growl. A lot has been said about this subject and I have even heard that it could be excessive wear in the transfer case, so after I do mine will relay to everyone.
If I am ever on life support
    unplug me.....
Then plug me back in see if that works !!!!!
