My 2004 Disco Td5 has just started to vibrate at 2250 as well .
It's not the normal vibration that every Td5 has .
I'm on my second Td5 in two different vehicles so I know what they are like .
It sends a drone low pitched vibration sound through the cabin at 100 kph on the freeway at 2250 rpm and it will do it in neutral in the driveway at 2250 as well so it's not drive line related .
Just had the injector harness replaced and that made no difference at all .
Mechanic is back on Monday to investigate further .
Drives you nuts driving at cruising speed .

In my experience, running EU3 remaps in a EU2 Td5 Disco is more rought than running an EU2 remap based on sthde021 sttdp010. Actually I have a 4 pin AAP, running an EU3 remap, and it is ok enough, but far from the smooth of an EU2 based remap. Perhaps the differences on the EU2/EU3 injectors, and the time of fuel injection of each kind of map, makes the differences ?

I am sure my 2000 TD5 is fairly well sorted and in very good nick but it has that vibration at 2250 RPM. I have scoured the net for an answer and I no feel given I have been under it over it and done all the things that should be done to properly maintain one of these beasts that it is just an inherent isue that isnt going to go away. My answer is just drive under it or through it. If you know everything is the way it should be just drive it! They are a great vehicle if you get to know them. If you put your faith in the stealers you are setting yourself up for nothing but problems. Do it yourself and know its done right!

I've been reading this thread with interest from start to finish....

I too have an auto td5 with a harsh vibration/resonance that starts at 2.2k revs and is at it's most severe at 2.5k revs. I can drive through it and is sweet at 2.7k up.

I removed my rear prop today as indicated in this thread and the noise has stopped!

so.....any idea on what to do now in trying to isolate this noise?

If removing the rear propshaft resolves the issue then it's one of two things. Rotoflex coupling needs to be replaced or the shaft has dropped a weight. Investigate in that order and see if it has any effect.

Normally I would agree with you but this Vibration/resonance is present even when standing still and both auto and transfer box in neutral.

    I've done the following...

    (post from a UK forum)

"Right.....small update on the rattle.....it's not a rattle well.....it is but it's caused by more of a deep vibration that then makes to the handbrake shoes rattle.

    I'll start from the begining.

This afternoon, after getting truely [hdc] off with it over the Peterborough show weekend, I decided to investigate this harshness/vibration/rattle.

I started by removing the fan and aux belt to eliminate the all the pulleys etc.....no change.

Removed all the plastic covers etc.....no change.

Tightened all the exhurst nuts.....no change.

Checked all the engine mount bolts......no change

checked all Gearbox mount bolts.....no change.....

Undid the coverplate on the bell housing and checked the flex plate and bolts....all good.

I then got cold...bored and it started to rain so went back inside to do a bit of reading.....I stumbled on a thread on AULRO with a guy with the same fault.

He suggested it's an issue with harmonics and when he removes his rear prop the harshness stops....

so off i go and remove the rear prop......HARSHNESS IS GONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I even go and take the handbrake drum off the check for anything loose etc.....all good....."

Ah, but you failed to mention the vibration was present when stationary. My advice was based on the vibration/drone being present whilst moving and at the revs you mentioned in your post.

If you do some more reading you'll find lots of information on modifications that have been made in an effort to reduce this vibration/drone. Also, this harmonic drone or resonance is annoying rather than harsh as you describe it.

It's a common problem that has not yet been solved.

My Land Rover Mechanic checked all these items as well and then decided to change the engine mounts to new genuine mounts which made it worse - - Had enough of it in the end and traded the vehicle in on something with less mechanical problems .

Did you try the fix for hand brake shoe chatter between 2000-3000rpm in Tech Bulletin L8945bu2 while you had the handbrake apart?

Indeed I did. I even replaced the short top spring and the rattle has now gone....just the vibration left.

Has anyone tried changing the harmonic dampers on the rear axle and TC?
