I have always assumed that the plate from the bottom of the bullbar to the bottom of the radiator ensures the rediator gets clean air fed from the bullbar holes and grill etc. If you take it off, you might have to be carefull of getting a gut full of mud up from below into the radiator core.
Be careful as I calculated that extending the length of the recovery point unit greatly increases the shear force on the mounting bolts. I extended mine less than 20mm from the ARB ones I used as templates so that I could just get a clear pull under the front skirt of the bullbar.
