    Dead D2

    Gday All,
Just got a call from SWMBO and she drove the D2 to the shops and all was fine, came back and went to start it and the cars dead, not even any dash lights.so she got out locked it and tryed again but the door key remote wont work so had to unlock it manually and still dead.

She had to leave it, but assuming it is battery related, but surely the dash lights would show even if the battery was low.
Im not there as im still at sea, but all I could think of is either a very loose terminal, or the duel battery solenoid has failed..

    Any Ideas, thanks in advance.

    Ean,

Very possibly just the battery, more than likely either a complete open circuit internally, or a terminal clamp loose/ corroded.

Thanks Justin, have read its not good to jump start a d2, does that include from a dual battery, would the serge protestion work if she tryed.

Was thinking of just putting a lead from the 2 positives as the negs should be the car.

    Whats your thoughts.

same happened to us a few years ago. We had a battery which went open circuit from one minute to the next. I hope that is all that's wrong.

Might be a dumb question but has anyone checked if the terminals are on tight, loose terminals will stop it dead.

    Ean,

Yes jump starting is quite safe, if the neg is attached to the block, or the AC bracket etc on a Td5. IF the battery has an open circuit though, I would fit a new battery as the system doesn't like running on alternator alone.

Just an update,She tryed to jump start it and the dash all lit up but the car wouldnt start, will fit a new battery today and see how it goes.

It sounds like the battery has a real problem cause the volt meter fitted to that battery sometimes reads 6v and then if ste try.s to start it or jump staert it it goes up to 10v whilst the other battery is reading 12.6v.

Thanks for the reply's..This is the downside of spending 7 months at sea..not being home when the car does something like this..
