I use my CDL in high range on fast dirt roads so I would take up that option if it were me.
Also, some kits have the CDL automatically engage when low range is selected. This can be a disadvantage in some situations.
Thinking about connecting the C.D.L. in my 1999 D2 , spoken to the independent rover dealer , they say you can have the C.D.L. connected to work in either high range , with the kit provided, or low range only, for a cheaper price. Is there an advantage in having both high and low range, or low range being the way to go? cheers, Bob

Hi bob
All you need to know about cdl is in here

I did mine cost $20.00 got to get out to turn
On & off but that’s no big deal for the times
I use it.

Hey Rod
Did you make it for $20, or buy it? I note the plans on the link.
It would seem to me you could lock it in for the full extent of the offroad work - say a trip to Morton Island. I assume TC and ABS continues to work and do every thing they are supposed to?
Any comments?
Thanks

Unfortunately the TC and ABS will be switched off if you have the centre diff locked and the engine is off and then restarted. Most of us do not want to have our engine on all day long and at some time will be turning it off! This does not apply to the D2a just the older D2 rigs. To have ABS and TC you will need to have the engine on and then engage the diff lock. If you want to have an in cabin arrangement and no loss of TC and ABS and you want to turn on and off your engine whenever you like there is a way to stop this with cutting a wire to the ECU in the passenger foot well. A search will turn up instructions with picks.
One advantage of having CDL available in high range is the ability to get you home if you break a front or rear axle...
Also, your hand brake will still work if (when) you break a rear axle.Mind you, my experience with broken rears was in the Series 2A and the Yellow knob was my get home free card.
In sand - High + CDL is excellent
Fast dirt - High + CDL is excellent
Reversing loads (trailers) - Low + NO CDL is excellent
Busted Diff and getting home - High + CDL means you can drive on single diff.
The D2a lever is the best way to go IMO... Ease of use and quiet (No NVH induced in cabin)
Cheaper budget methods become frustrating *if* you have to reach underneath. In cab gives the ability to lock/unlock on the move.
D2 CDL and TruSpeed Installation
Mate,
Pure and simple... Get one... You won't regret fitting it!
TC is crap!....
Go to www.discovery2.co.uk and see Urban Panzers info.
So easy to do with very little technical personal knowledge....
Would go down the Ashcrofts route and get their kit... Then have the benefit of not having to switch the engine off and option of High and low...

As the others have said cdl high and low is the way to go I was looking at getting the low range only option but instead got a discovery one cdl shifter and fitted that. Cost me approx $200 all up. I shipped it from the states, it's a pretty involved job but can be done at home with the right tools and there's a few sites with instructions on how to install. If you want more info shoot me a pm and I'll dig up the info from when I did mine
Yep, cut the wire to the ECU, http://www.aulro.com/afvb/discovery-...h-cdl-job.html
