The second link isn't an ES. The biggest variation stems from seller 'ignorance' more than anything else. The ES always had leather. I find that car yards tend to misunderstand the model they are trying to sell and list it as an ES, when they really mean 'S'.

The sunroof's were an option. The darker colours certainly help heat up the leather in summer but the black is a pretty rare colour in Oz.

    thanks.

what are mondial wheels and why are they good?

is the leather in this vehicle alpaca as well?

    what does 'ES' stand for?

and, considering that coin is similar - how does this '03 S below compare to black '01 ES and which would give better value for money?

Just personal preference. They aren't any 'better' than the stand 18" wheels beyond looks.

I am not sure what 'ES' stands for however.

You can see why it's confusing though as this 'S' has leather but is the update model from 2003. This year they changed the lineup completely and introduced new trim levels and model codes in an attempt to keep the model fresh. I can only assume it was either an option or a special edition on this model. Happy to be corrected on this one.

    Hope this helps.

Not sure when the 'Classic' models were available with the leather seats. I thought it was 2004 as part of the run out but am not totally sure.

Maybe this one was just optioned with the leather.

I used to have a D1 which was ES spec. It's basically the top of the range.

The price may be about right if it is in good condition and is an ES model.

I bought a 2002 V8 ES about 18 months ago for $19,500 with 78,000km on it, it is now up to 138,000km.

It has (or at least had) SLS, ACE, full leather, upgraded sound system with CD stacker, 18" wheels, factory nudge bar and side steps, 7 seater, rear aircon. It has the high compression V8 and runs well, uses a lot of fuel if you drive it hard but is reasonable on the highway etc. compared to other petrol 4wd's.

One thing to note, the other models ie, S and Country Pack etc. from what I know only had a wheel and trim upgrade, but missed out on things like the ACE.

My D2 is now up to around 2.4t with all the gear on it and has a 2" lift and 31" tyres and will still out corner almost any other standard 4wd due to the Active Cornering and they are probably the most comfortable 4wd around, smooth to drive and a good fitout for the age.

A lot of what you get in a 2002 ES is only now being put into other makes of 4wd.

I would pay the money if it is mechanically sound. I ended up having a number of issues with mine, however I was able to recoup the money from the dealer under statutory warranty.

    D2 ES stuff

When I bought my '99 V8 ES 3 1/2 yrs ago I knew everything about the models. My memory has faded since and now I just drive it.

The dealers either know squat about what model they are selling or are trying to rip people off. There are a lot of "ES's" advertised by dealers that definately are not.

The attached file is what I put together back then on the '99' to '01' V8 models when I needed to know.

ps the ave klm column was correct back in 2007.

    tell him he's dreamin.

Not for an 01 V8 or even a td5 that is 2004 money.

The ES is the top spec model. The ES added things like (although some of these could be optioned on lower spec)

    Dual Sunroof,
    Front Rear Air Conditioning,
    Park Assist,
    6 CD STACKER, & 12 SPEAKERS
    EBD,
    FOG LIGHTS,
    LEATHER UPHOLSTERY,
    POWER FRONT SEATS ,
    AUTOMATIC/SELF LEVELLING SUSPENSION

    Hi Byte,

There are a few threads here with details regarding the differences between each of the "face lift's" and as mentioned by 'discodream79' it kept the progress of the models fresh. The 03 & 04 D2a models had 100's of the known issues fixed by LR and as can be seen by the headlight format working toward the D3 design. As was advised in one of these previous threads if you can, get a D2a as they have far less issues. I picked my 04 D2a up from a dealer in Bunbury in February last year (2010), 79,245km on the clock, one previous owner (first bought by him from Trivett in Sydney, he lives in Australind), Adriatic Blue, S model, full leather, factory 18" alloys, OEM Tow Pack, V8 Auto and paid $21,990.
I notice also Trading Post advertising at the top of the web page has a lot of D2's for sale.
    Hope some of this helps.
    Cheers,
    Peter.
