    I used some small flat head screw drivers to push the rubber grommet back through the hole in the actual cover itself. I then just slipped the cover off. Thanks for the tips.

    some engines (possibly only defenders) have another bit of insulation that sits at the back of the engine.

    the insualtion will pick up any oil that is spilt during top ups, or is sprayed around if you get any kind of a leak
