I think my fuel pump is about to die.. Noisey whirring sounds. I can even hear it when doors are shut.

Maybe ????? part of the high fuel usage!!!!!

My pump has been making this noise for 2 years with no performance issues, I did the CSR with another D2 TD5 and that was also the same.

I do 90% of my driving towing a 1 tonne trailer, and I average 12.3l/100km
D2 TD5 auto. I'm pretty happy with that, as I can have a heavy right foot

Stock Td5 on 18" road pattern Tyres.

Loaded for two people for 10 days.
All driving done at the posted speed limits.

    Melbourne - Adelaide - 10.54 L/100 km
Adelaide - Port Augusta. - 9.45 L/100 km (easy day just cruising)
Port Augusta - Coober Pedy (& drive around there for the day) 10.37 L/100 km
Coober Pedy - Erldunda. 11.07 L/100 km (headwind & speed up once in NT)
Haven't fueled up since Erldunda, spent a few days driving around Uluru etc.

Let you know on the return trip, downhill all the way isn't it?
How did you get these figures when there is no trip computer or am I missing something on mine?

I found this video last night on you-tube and this is exactly what mine does.

    [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DEK7gcn6F2Q]Land Rover Discovery 2 TD5 noisy fuel pump. - YouTube[/ame]

I see DISCO WA says his has been doing it for two years no probs. I wonder what others say?

XHBPT1 Says get some 2 stroke in it .Is the solution that simple?

And I'm just jealous that NAVIGUESSER is on the road doing what I can only dream of...

Would this have anything to do with above average fuel consumption and will I be stuck on the side of the Highway one morning on my way to work?

    Any comments?

    Cheers

I have recently upped the boost to just over 19psi via adjusting the wastegate. today drove from Newcastle to Sydney.

Drove 146.4 km (approx 130 of those on motorway/freeways) GPS and speedo/odometer identical speed/distance readouts

From tank brimming to refill tank brimming 12.72 litres!

My calculator says 8.688 litres per 100km.

stock engine and I/C, no chip. Pirelli ATRs 32psi front/ 40 rear, ARB Bar and winch, just me on board and no cargo

    Never achieved below 10/100 before.

    Adjust your wastegate NOW!

engine runs 3 deg cooler also! (CHT)

    Hi Northiam,

I assume you mean boost pressure

via my nanocom which uses the ECU pickoff at the MAP sensor

increased max boost via adjusting wastegate from 212 Kpa to 237 Kpa

    10 kpa = 1.45psi

today at idle, ambient was 103Kpa=14.9 approx
    237kpa- 103= 134 (19.43 psi).

am about to fit D2a intercooler and will post the changes it makes to power/fuel/temps

Filling to the brim each time and noting the km between each fill.
You can probably allow for little variance in tank filling, but I try as hard as I can to fill it the same each time. No trip computer, just record taking on a trip.

Forgot to add to original post is an auto as well.

Thats awesome mileage! How does turning up the boost improve mpg (increased power = increased fuel consumption)?
Newcastle to Sydney freeway has some long labouring hills, were you maintaining the speed limit mostly 110kph or cruising in the slow lane?
