    OOPS!

    Hi Guys

Hoping you can point me in the right direction.

Accelerating to change lanes in my 2000 Td5 manual this morning when I hear a loud pop or quiet bang form the left hand side of the engine bay and then I've lost power ... seems like the turbo isn't working.

I stopped and checked all the turbo hoses, thinking one may have just come off ... but they're all still attached.

So I drove it to work only to discover that it is now leaking a serious amount of oil from somewhere near the oil filter.

I've checked the engine oil and there appears to be plenty ... thoughts? suggestions ... ???

    and thanks.

    Craig

If I recall correctly, there is a small hose under the turbo that can pop off.

I dont think it is easily seen, possibly without removing the turbo heat shield.

Craig did it overheat as well?? could be the small coolent hose under the turbo if it did, losing power is the car going into limp mode.

Check the oil return hose from the turbo and all around the turbo and make sure the oil filter hasn't popped off, I have heard of them coming off.

It does sound like an intercooler hose has come off, from your description though.

    Cheers Baz.

Think I may have found the problem ... if you look closely, there's a crack around the housing thingy!

Well Well! Looks like the housing has split around ! and a piece of casting gone too. So yep oil + no power! Have seen a Cat D6 turbo do that once, but not heard of it happening often.

    Yep!

So obviously I'm replacing some parts ... is this a good opportunity to upgrade the turbo or should I stick with stock replacements?

to upgrade or not to upgrade That is the question! For me it depends on what else you have done that will work in tandem, your intended use, if you want to keep the vechile long enough to gain the benifit and not the next owner( well not too much to him and the biggest question of the universe is..................................How deep your pockets!!! upgrades tend to spiral rapidly out of control Like a girl with daddies credit card in Myers!!!!

    Pop no power

do you have silicone or rubber hoses....there are three hoses that can cause your symptoms; One beside radiator under air intake box another prior to this connecting to turbo output and one opposite side of radiator under battery box... Sounds like you have blown a hose..........set of silicones will set you back about a hundred ....easy to fit hope tthis helps......Peter
