    roof lining

I need to do mine it is just starting to look like a curtain.
I was wondering if I could strip of the original lining and re use it , or is it too hard to get the holes to line up. No sun roof either thank god.

The problem is the foam backing on the lining that falls apart. To re-use the lining will mean the same thing will probably happen shortly afterwards.

Even with a sunroof to work around and a cage to remove most upholstery places charge about $350.

    Cheers

I am glad that mine has sunroofs. They hold up the saggy headlining.
    Dave.

I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."

I've got to do mine soon. I was going to get someone to do it, but after seeing your job I might give it a go myself.

Where did you get the lining from?

Hi Sorry just noticed your reply. I bought it from Southern Cross Textiles, Sydney. They posted it too me on a card role.

$125 inc freight. I purchased 3 meters at $32 per M. They will post you a colour card to choose the fabric but there is only 4 options with the right width. I went for 'Shale" which is a sandy/stone colour. 4mm thick too so more padded than the origional..

    Rob,

Is the Shale (2144XW) a reasonable match for the original headlining?

    cheers

I did my D1 with two sunroofs in a similar manner.

slight differences: used a flapper sanding disc on my angle grinder to de-glue the last of the foam off the backing.

I used "kwik Grip" in a tin (not spray can), applied with a paint brush (used a bit under a litre). Tried spray first, wasnt going so well for me so changed to the tin stuff.

I also used foam backed headling material. Not "flecked" (ie fluffy), as i wanted something that could be wiped if needed. Got some awesome textured foam backed stuff for about ~$60 from this place (walked in, able to colour match etc to my hearts content). Old school warehouse setup, they have everything under the sun in their back room somewhere. They were very helpful (I have no affiliation, other than buying from them over the years)

And for a bonus, when i went there (and if you look at google streetview), someone who works there parks their series land rover in the carpark out the front (It must be a mark of a decent business then!)

It has been up for ~1yr now. No glue stink, no sag. Im happy.

    Rob, a question.

How is the backing board supported, other than by the grab handles, light fittings, console etc? It appears that as well as the headlining separating from the backing, the backing itself is sagging.
