    G'day,
Just running a few things through my head about putting a VNT on my td5. I noticed yesterday that the turbo lag is pretty dreadful with the ac on. Just wondered if the VNT should also make a bug improve on this.
Would you say that with all the additional mods associated with the turbo, it makes the car more enjoyable to drive in a big way?

Is there anyone in MELBOURNE that has one fitted? I would be keen to go for a spin if someone is kind enough.
I have reposted this again as a VNT not VGT turbo.

    Cheers bronson

Luke, I did a course with a guy who put a VW vnt on his td5, said the difference was huge, really transformed the car, can't remember how he controlled it, may be with a Dawes valve, not sure.

repost the question as VNT , you will get a few more takers, rather than Variable Geometry Turbo use Variable Nozzle Turbo as they are know to Landrover people.

B-A-S resell the Turbo Techics VNT's, so that might open up the options a little?

BTW Merged the two threads to keep things in one place.

I'm making enquiries about a VNT for my Td5 Defender, Im actually VERY pleased with how the Defender goes now, my only concern is when Im towing my Caravan its quite easy to go over 700 on the EGT, infact I'm conscious of driving by the EGT. I know the easy way would to be drive it like a Tdi and just go slower.

Pete from BAS suggested I first try a larger intercooler, which I will do, even if it lowers EGT's by 30 degrees I'll be happy, esp WOT going up those hills on the Hume.

the lowdown improvment and midrange from the VNT will be a bonus, you would think that the upper range there won't be much performance improvment but apparantly the Turbo Technics VNT is less restrictive on the exhaust than the original Td5 Garret turbo and you get lower WOT EGT's as a result.

The Td5 VNT itself is cheaper from Turbo Technics (who makes them) but you will need a BAS boost box which stops the ECU from chucking a wobbly when over boosted, so it works out cheaper to get the package from BAS.

    cheers Don

It's a case of "you will need a boost box" rather than one specifically from BAS.

The IRB job appears to the best of the bunch, as it also intercepts the MAF signal, so you avoid the having to purchase modified MAF's as some have done.

I'll race you some time Don!

I can't offer too much advice here, because as is probably obvious, I'm a 300Tdi fiend, but I can say a VNT makes a big difference to a Tdi (oh and I didn't have to mess about with boost boxes 'n' stuff ).

But then we don't need to stuff around with adjusting fuel pumps to get something that drives faster than a snail on valium.
