And is it a necessity to change over my non flashabl ecu to a flashable ecu?
Really gotta see what the costs are gonna also.

    Cheers

I dont have a Discovery TD5 with a VNT but I have just fitted one to a Defender TD5.
The vehicle already had a stage 2 map and an Allisport Intercooler so I never really had a performance issue.
My issue was more with myself being an intrinsically lazy driver and being use to driving larger more powerful vehicles.
I simply am not use to changing gears all the time and use to get caught pulling out of roundabouts in the wrong gear, the result was the TD5 bogged down until the turbo boosted an it took off.

If I drove only the Defender for a week my driving style adjusted and it was all OK.

I got Pete Bell to send me the VNT and Boost box and it was the best thing I ever did now the TD5 will pull away in 5th gear at 50 kmh without delay (not at all good for the gearbox)
Put simply it flies I still need to change my mapping to suit the VNT but I have had map writing issues that have prevented this.

Well worth the expense in my opinion

I didn't realise 300TdI Defender owners had zero sense of humour?

You should be right with your current map, but you'd definitely get better performance with a remap to suit.

    The bare essentials are:

    Uprated Intercooler: £500
    Boost Box: £100
    Turbo: £700
    total: £1300 + shipping

so probably just shy of $2000 plus any shipping charges.

Factor in another $800 if you upgrade to a reflashable ECU and remap.

    cheers

Cheers for that mate! Correct me if I'm wrong does your td5 have a flashable or non flashable ecu? Also did you change it yrself, was there much involved with the changeover?

I converted from MSB to NNN ECU about 2 months ago. It's basically plug and play.

You do need the correct EU2 map loaded as a starting point but they can be generated using the Nanocom map wizard without any dramas. Apart from that the procedure is the same as any other ECU swap:

    - Load injector codes
    - Set throttle type
    - Sync with BCU

The swap over can be done in 30 minutes.

Oww, I just didn't want to get into a TD5 vs Tdi argument, especially on a Discovery 2 thread. The only humourous things I can think of are at the expense of TD5 owners.

How about a joke instead? What's the difference between a gerbil and a TD5 engine? Errrr, that's not leading the right way is it...........

Flashable ECU not difficult to do you just need some way of programming your details and map in

Not exactly. But that's ok. We know the Td5 is the better engine

I have been thinking of the VNT for a while now because my biggest killer with my van in tow is the turbo lag. Exasperated by the fact that it is manual. My car is fairly moded as you can see by the info in my signature. Thinking a VNT may just be the icing on the cake???
    Thoughts?
    Regards
