Turbo over boost?
We were running late for moomba fireworks and didnt want dissapoint my daughter. So I went faster than usual.
On the way I tried to overtake a prado but the car refused to go above 3000 rpm. It flactuates between approx 2600-2900 rpm.
No problem going 100km/h on highway.
Tried to push the car above 3000rpm on the way back and same thing happen.
Anyone experienced this before or any suggestion where I should start to check?
Its a Td5 with auto.
TIA.

Should I play around with the overboost setting or I just replace the waste gate mod as describe on discovery2 website http://www.discovery2.co.uk/wastegate.html
Try cleaning the inlet manifold sensor they can get gummed up..
Also check its connector although if it isn't connected properly the RPM will normally be limited to around 2000.
Although I am only a newbie at D2, I have read in several posts that the most likely cause of your problem is the Boost Modulator. This is the little box under the aircon compressor with a hose from the inlet, and the pipe from turbo to intercooler and it then controls the wastegate..
My car drops out at around 4K under full throttle, and I have cleaned the MAF and MAP, replaced the wiring harness, cleaned the red plug( which it also could be), but no change.
I have a new modulator on order from the UK. They are only $44 or so, so unless you want to pay a dealer to do a diagnostic , maybe that is the first thing to do.

4K RPM is not something a diesel likes to do all the time, modern or not! It just stresses the heck outa them for very little gain. Want to do those revs? Get a V8!
( I have a TD5)
all noise and no go above about 3500rpm on mine but it is chipped, speak to td5alive if you want to hit 4500rpm frequently.
the manual does say something about keeping it in the 2-3000rpm range for peak power.![]()
There is another thread in the tech section, where I explain that the full throttle change point 1-2 is 4200RPM.
I want to make sure everything is OK and working properly before I change anything like block the EGR, as unless you have the thing perfect when you start , you enter a quagmire of trying to work out what causes what.
4200 revs is the programmed full throttle change point. The engine should do it cleanly and easily as shown in the video.
I have now fitted the new boost modulator and it made no difference.
I can also see that at sometime I might want to pass someone and don't need the engine falling over when I am on the wrong side of the road.
