Thread: Finally did it...

Had quite a read of that thread, way I saw it was he couldn't release the CAD drawings for sale. I did like it, but I thought that the lower face was a bit too low.
I like Slunnies design in that it's really simple, quite easy to fabricate (although knowing my ability with sharp implements I'll cut my fingers off with an angle grinder in the process) and it just seems to be nicely proportioned. I'll finish up some drawings I'm doing tonight, looking at possibly a rear bar with upward swept wings (like Psimspons front bar) but I don't want it to look like a bash around comp style one. Nothing against them, just not my style.

And Andrew yes, I did see that and test it. That's actually how I made the first crack.
Watts linkage bushes are fine, I think it will either be in the springs/shocks, or an issue with a chassis spacer as pointed out to me by Paul (OffTrack).

Absolutely! Corners are clipped in with bolts rather than plastic clips, the rear bar has been ripped off completely and quick release clips now hold it on, and sacrificial cable ties are used on he bumper lights so they eject before breaking.

Well, my less than sophisticated doodling produced these two examples of what I'm thinking off.
First is solid steel bar with capacity for swing away arms, uses the original tail lights and features swept up wings, basically a Slunnie bar with a bit of a trim.
Next idea was a solid centre bar with tubular wings that I'd extend around to under the rear quarter panel. Plating in between the two tubes that the lights would mount to. Virtually impossible to mount a swing away arm to, but if done properly it could look pretty More of a comp style bar though, not sure which I prefer at this stage.

Both would have capacity for recovery points, hi-lift points, etc in the centre.

I am also in the category - do I have the time to build my own or should I just spend the money and buy off the shelf. Problem is every off the shelf design I have seen I want to modify it somewhat. My problem is my execution is not as good as my intentions.

aha!! Thats where I had seen it! Could not think where I had and yes it is a very nice looking item. It is now bookmarked and in my to get list I do not think for that money I could do any better even if I could find the time.( I know I could not!)

Oh Mr Muppet, how disappointed was I.

By the way, in answer to the question about being a 'proper' D2 offroader now, I answer... Only when you get a proper D2, can you become a proper D2 offroader.

Back to the thread... I have a basic custom made steel rear bar which was fitted by the previous owner. I'll post up some pic's a little later.

I would also check those options out on the Britcar (UK) website.

Some are roughly half the price. Postage would not be the other half.
