D1//D2 is a bit of a divide, with the d2 largely designed from the ground up to fix the problems and poor build quality of D1. If you want to debate the pros and cons post a thread in general chat.

Im not here to debate the pros and cons of various Disco models, rather to point out the inefficiencies of comercially produced battery isolators

Fine, but please keep it relevant to the D2 if you want to continue the discussion here. There is no point discussing hypothetical (perhaps better called hyperthetical) situations when they have minimal or no relevance to the D2.

In the case of the D2:

    - the interior light switches off after 10 minutes if the doors are open, and 15 seconds if the doors are closed
    - the electric windows only draw current when the motors are activated and operation is disabled 45 seconds after ignition is switched off.
    - central locking only draws significant current when the lock motors are activated

There is a low level current draw from the BCU when the ignition is switched off.

Most people using these kinds of systems are looking at a maximum of 2-3 days run time off the batteries without starting the engine, so unless you leave the headlights on (highly unlikely if you are camping) or decide to have the stereo going non-stop there is little potential to drain the battery to the point you can't start.

    regards
    Paul

Oh please..... the member who started this thread asked about an ARB Sidewinder and instalation posibilities in a D2, your first post was to Rubbish it and then proceed to plug your own product as the thread developed.... "keep it relevent" you say,

my comments are about all isolators in general regardless of the vehicle they are fitted to, D2 Drivers dont just read D2 Threads and D1 drivers dont just read D1 threads and so on and so forth, thats what the forum is about Ideas, knowledge, hint and Tips that can be used across models NOT rubishing one product to plug your own

Hi Kevin and you have set out to rubbish all COMMERCIAL products because you can’t see the value of such products for your own SPECIALISED need.

As I have already pointed out, even in your case, my isolators would still give you greater potential protection against being stranded than your proposed set up would.

Furthermore, OffTrack does not sell my products or get a commission from any sales ( although I should give him a commission for his support of my products ) he is a satisfied customer who regularly promotes my products based on that satisfaction.

OffTrack was not rubbishing any other product, he was simply stating that there is a better set up, that offers far greater advantages, and as a sponsor of this site, I followed through with additional info.

Once again, you have a specialised need based on your own unique situation, a situation that very few other 4x4ers, Land Rover or other, would risk being in the first place.

If you go back and read my posts I have made no comment about any other brands positive or negative. I was simply pointing out to Philip that there were other ways of achieving a similar result without going to the extensive rewiring he undertook.

If you want to engage in a wide ranging discussion on DBS's post up a thread in the Communications and Electronics forum, or technical chatter, which are the appropriate fora for non-vehicle specific discussion. "The Pinnacles" forums are intended for model specific discussion, so please respect and keep the discussion to D2 specific.

    regards

    Drivesafe,

Yes i have a very specialised needs when it comes to battery power and how i use it while away and an over the counter battery management/isolator could not meet my needs so i built my own, as i said previously they are not rubbish on the contrary most of them are quite good for the price and for what they do, i used to have one till it no longer did what i wanted it to do, i was simply saying that the ones available on the market today in my opinion dont place enough emphasis on the main starting battery they simply just isolate it from the Aux at a certain voltage leaving the start battery still conected to the rest of the accessories, now depending on what you have in your vehicle thats a recipe for disaster.

It's been an interesting thread no Doubt and as Landrover is a Gentlemans 4X4 no matter what model it is i shall apologise if i have offended anyone with my views, however i shall not change them

    Kevin

    I think you'll find I didn't say that.

Hi again Kevin and I think it’s best left where this is as you are talking about two different devices.

Isolators and voltage meters are not the same thing and I stand by what I posted, a volt meter is next to useless while driving but this has nothing to do with isolators and how they work.
