    Locking Differential - Electronic

Has any knowledge/experience of the Harrop Eaton E Locker?
Locally produced as an alternative to imported

I'm currently in the process of ordering a Harrop TruTrac for the ass of my Pursuit ute. Same thing as the Ashcroft ATB, but three times the price due to being a locally made item (no alternatives being for an Australian vehicle though). Harrop's items are generally of a very high build quality.

I have tru tracs front and rear in my D2a on JC's advice and I have to say the car is very very good TC and tru trac is a very capable combination.
Prior to this I owned a D1 with a Detroit in the rear and that was pretty good also. D2a is probably better though ...

thanks a lot for all the feedback, Think I will go with a Ashcroft now debating whether I also replace front axel and CV's with Ashcroft version or wait untill they go?

Have 33" tires but intend to drive it as my D3 controlled and slow....

Debated that myself too. I've purchased the Ashcroft rear axles, but I'm not going to worry about the fronts just yet. For what it's worth, I intend to run 35's offroad.

i purchased two Ashcroft lockers and reduction gears for my P38 and all up it cost $2500 plus freight and tax they are in service now and i am very happy. I fitted 32 inch tyres to the rig from original 29 inch the fuel loss was high i went from 11 liters to the hundred to 17 now i am back to around 14 the mud tyres eat up the air and cause a heap of drag also think i may need injectors serviced. The quality of the Ashcrofts is very high they are made specifically for our rigs and they answered all questions i asked regarding setup etc.

jmac diff and gear in arndell park charged me $300 to fit the rear detroit.

charged $1200 a year later to rebuild the diff after crown & pinon failure, $450 of that was parts alone.

give john a call if your around these parts.

(dont confuse detroit truetrac with detroit locker - they are totally different)

Ive also had a Truetrac in the front & rear of my 110 for about 70,000 km . vehicle is better in every respect except increased front tyre wear
Hi mate - can you explain that....I dont follow and would like to.

    Cheers

    read:

    Ashcroft Transmissions - Ashcroft ATB

    and

Defender2 - View topic - ATB (torsen) front and rear install

Basically with a helical LSD/torsen style diff, if one wheel has no traction (i.e. free spinning up in the air), then both wheels will have no drive. In a non-TC vehicle this can be resolved by applying some brake (i.e. left foot on the brake pedal) as the brake pads clamp the rotor and that provides the needed traction to the free spinning wheel, once this happens, drive will transfer to the other wheel and the vehicle should get moving again. In a TC vehicle this is streamlined as the TC will apply the brake for you automatically, so this type of differential works extremely well in such a vehicle.
