$80 to have a straight piece of pipe welded in, go to the local exhaust place.

another great idea, thanks. tricky part is that the car would be out of action while I would do that. ..

No more so than it is out of action now! By 'out of action" you mean you can not do without for an hour?

I got a terrafirma straight through pipe. Mine had the cat converter but some td5's didn't have the cat installed so if questioned I will say mine was one of those. Very very easy to remove and replace. Just bolt and unbolt. You will need some new bolts to mount the centre to the straight exhaust as the oem bolts are welded/sealed to the exhaust. Still easy though. Just buy some high tensile nuts and bolts.

Thanks for the advise. You wouldn't happen to remember what the bolt sizes were?

Bolts were hi tensile, 60mm from top to bottom, 97% sure its 3/8 in width. And just buy the nuts to suit (if they don't come in a pack). From the turbo just use the existing bolts. You might want a new gasket for the turbo-exhaust end. I re-used mine but would've replaced if I had remembered to buy one beforehand. It's an easy enough job, would recommend using wd40 on all bolts a few days before you do the job just to make life a bit easier.

Thank you all for your prompt, great and invaluable advice. Managed to get a good price today, supply and fitted (as already mentioned was 1 hour labour only), from the local (Geelong) LR mechanic for a straight-through one. Happy wife again ....
