The motor is probably OK, when you have coolant spraying everywhere you will often loose power and have the engine cut. The same thing happened to me after going through the thermostat issue and blowing a hose, loss of power, engine cut and no damage done. But the head and or gasket will likely be the culprit. The TD5 cooling system on its own should not be causing you so much grief.

i dont loose coolant at other times at all, and the hose that came off was because of a quick repair i did when i first got it. that little black brittle one that runs infront of the radiator all the way to where you fill it fell apart when i had pulled my air box out to clean it back at the end of jan, it was then replaced with hose really not suitable as it would warp and stretch in the heat, so then over time as the hose warmed up, it would slowly come off the little tiny bit of the original hose until it came off completely and the coolant came out of there. so this occurance has been my fault. my dad brought me some water, re attached that silly hose, took it straight home, it ran perfectly fine, and then have now replaced that black hose with a copper alternative so it will never melt off again. it has been fine since, back to running at half and no coolant lost at all. i do want to check my compression though just to make sure for peace of mind.

Good to hear you replaced the hose, and that all seems ok now you've had a rough trot with it that's for sure!

assuming is the same as a petrol engine, you need a compression test kit.

Good news that it is running well. If it is running smoothly I wouldn't worry about trying to do a compression test as that is problematic I would think. The only access I can think of for a compression test is via the pre heaters and there are only 4 of those. As a matter of info I replaced the brittle radiator bleed tube with H511 5/16 Auto Fuel hose with no further problems.

Get that copper off that system!

That copper and the alloy are not going to play nice together!

Apparently copper /brass and OAT do not mix either.

A new Nylon tube is pretty cheap I think. I got one in my full kit of hoses , so I don't know how much.

The radiator bleed hose should be about $35.

I reckon someone will jemmy the bonnet and nick the copper for scrap before it has a chance to do any damage....
