    Extra auto cooling?

Just wondering if people have found the need for extra autobox cooling? I am looking uploading a new map to the td5 soon and the hardest workout the car would ever get is sand dunes and long beaches. I have always been a manual owner and have always had the (probably very incorrect) idea that auto boxes are just waiting to overheat/blow. But I dont want to add extra cooling if its unnecessary. Any advice?

Bruce Davis does an extra auto trans cooler, if you're doing lots of sand work or towing it's probably a good idea.

I have one of those auto coolers from Bruce Davis fitted (D2a V8 ) Just finished towing a 2.2t caravan. No rise in engine temp and trans worked well.

Whats the price for a Davis one? Also did it come ready to install or do you have to custom mount it yourself?

Widely recommended if you tow. In my 04 td5 the passenger can clearly feel the extra heat coming off the transmission tunnel with a 2t van on. If you are just doing a remap I'd be concentrating on modifying the exhaust manifold first to cope with the higher temp exhaust gasses. In theory there is a dash warning light for an overheating tranny but the opinions on here suggest it is unreliable or comes on to late to stop damage

The Davis aux auto cooler comes with brackets hoses and instructions to fit up quite easily and can drop auto oil temp by approx 30%. Really is a great kit

I've been running the Bruce Davis one since lot long after he released them. A very reliable and effective unit that that sits behind the grill and doesnt get blocked with mud like the factory one does. I run the two ATF coolers in series.
