    still no luck my end
exhaust shield under centre muffler moves, but a tighten it up and nosie still there.
Have not tried applying hand brake yet, but will try.

Sounds like its near the tranny near the front drivers set belt buckle.

What are the gear boxes like in these things? cars done 215k.

im trying to do the handbrake thing but struggling with one hand to drive and do that. might see if it happens in lower gear and speed as that will be safer lol. yours sounds so much like mine murdoch. not as noticeable from passengers side. my trans is 316000 almost now. no issues other than overheated but filter and fluid changed since.

If it's a whistle noise and gets louder under load it might be the exhaust manifold warp/gasket leaking.

I already fixed the warped manifold. its not a whistle sounds like metal rattle or a plastic bag being strangled lol. or a lose bracket or something. its definitely odd

    mine is hand brake related.
If i apply hand brake it goes away.

its not the shoes, its something in the assemble on the part you pull
how do i get to to this part of the hand brake?
    via the cabin?

Dazza posted a good TD5 list, if you work through that I reckon you'll find it.

The TD5 has interesting vibrations in that range because it is a 5 cyl. anything loose will rattle at those revs.

And yet a 5 cyl is meant to be the best balanced reciprocating engine.
Had a Ford Courier TD today with a noise like you described Epic dragon, and it was simply one of the intercooler pipes pushing air past the clamp at a join with the hose just about to pop off. However if yours has been going on for a few weeks it probably would have fallen off by now and you would notice a lack in power. Strange thou how your description is just as I heard.
The other things I was thinking of were fan belt / pulleys and the viscous fan. Maybe you could flick the fan belt off and take it for a quick test.

well not handbrake related checked and doesn't change the noise, if anything makes worse as is under slight load. my handbrake is in need of tightening as is rather loose. was nice and tight before.
