+1 for the alternator thing... especially cos that warning is not a "battery warning" even though it's a battery icon, it has nothing to do with the battery as long as the alternator is working... it's officially named "Alternator charge warning lamp" and it's based on the alternator output being hardwired to it... it's not as common as alternator failure but it might be a wiring issue between the alternator and the instrument pack too... you can rule this out by measuring the voltage on the battery with engine running, if you get around 14V the alternator is working.
