Water proofing D2a for Cape York

Apart from the obvious things like diff breathers, snorkel and door seals. What things should be considered when preparing deep river crossings exactly like on the Old Telegraph track?

The Disco 2 TD5 is very electric, i'm not scared off electrics being an electronics tech however I'm worried the electric 4WD's might not make it to the Cape.

What should I consider to waterproof the ECU for example?

Hundreds of D2s have made the Cape.
Tarp on the bonnet, walk the crossings first and don't do stupid **** and you'll be fine.

Theres alot more electic cars that do the cape nowadays... I did it in a 81 Range Rover no snorkel, just being carefully. Prior preperation is the key.. Your D2 will be fine. Tarp up before u plunge into deep water

I'd say the auto ECU under the passenger seat is pretty vulnerable. It can be moved up onto the back of center console for a temporary solution whilst you attempt a crossing....Just a thought incase you get bogged whilst crossing. Maybe even place it in a plastic bag and a rubber band over the cable.

    What he said^^^^^

I have done it up and back twice in a D2a.No problems at all,as said make sure you walk EVERY crossing, low range second for most, lots of common sense, blind across the front on the deep crossings.

Hit it to hard and you can put the fan into the rad.

    Have a good trip,fantastic place.

Take a big paperclip to close the duckbill at the bottom of the air cleaner box.

If you got SLS, protect the compressor maybe wrap a bin liner or tape a bag around it just the deep crossing then remove ,,,,

The best suggestion is leave the D2 at home and take the old man's OKA. or his new old deefer 300tdi.
Don't forget the vacuum cleaner hose on the exhaust

I've seen this picture before. About to do the same trip however in a little more comfort than a Series 1. Although his engine was blue printed and rebuilt while mine has done 280,000 Kms.
