I tried to find what the factory LR fuel pressure is in the RAV this morning but I had to come to work. From previous searches it was 2 psi higher.
What I was attempting to state earlier is the factor reg might hold 60psi from idle to 1500rpm but then it'll be down to 58psi by 1600rpm and then continue to fall as revs rise. This Bosch unit will only hold 58psi to 1600rpm but then it will fall at the same rate and keep same pressure that the factory unit would. Not exact figures, just examples. Once either unit is fully open then they will both perform the same. So the 2 psi differnence is only until they fully open which I'm told is pretty low in the rev range.
Happy Days.
Note on the mongrel 3rd bolt. The non LR mechanic I got to do mine took an hour for the whole job and he did that with a super long extension 3/8 socket poking it through the gap in the wheel arch. Cool trick. He had the hoist but would work the the wheel off.
So what I ended up doing was ordering this repair kit from the UK:
Land Rover Discovery 2 Defender TD5 Fuel Pressure Regulator Rebuild KIT | eBay
It arrived after 3 weeks and I fitted it Friday morning and no leaks now. It took me about 1hr 30min doing it from the top, manifold on. Time is approx because I was interrupted halfway by Mrstd5 wanting me to help move the donkeys as the farrier was coming.
This is the third time I've attended to the FPR in the 130,000km Ive had the car. First time I fitted a new genuine FPR which lasted about 80,000km, second time a kit from the UK lasted 38,000km before it started leaking out of the hole in the diaphragm unit.
I found the old packet and it turns out that was the exact part and seller as the one I just fitted so we'll see how we go this time. Even if it lasts 40k again its still cheaper than a whole genuine unit.
I figured next time I'll order a whole unit so that the hose gets replaced, either that or by then we may have figured out a way to replace diaphragm unit and hose with cheaper good quality units.
Just to add two more things,
the quote I got from RoverLord Spares was very acceptable and they got back to me very quickly with a reply.
also, I was able to diagnose that it was definitely the diaphragm unit leaking because I could see fuel dripping out of the hole when holding a mirror underneath it with the engine running.
Good stuff, DaveTD5.
I have just started this thread:

I need the size of the "O" rings on the fuel lines. The kit you provided a link to shows you should have 3 of them. If you have an older model fuel regulator, you would have only used 2. Is there any chance you could measure the third one if you still have it (used of thrown out).
The RAV manual says to replace it obviously but LR don't list a part number. It's just a generic "O" ring.
Happy Days.
Joel, I only used 2 o-rings so I have a spare somewhere out in the cold shed. I'll try and remember to measure it for you tomorrow morning with the vernier caliper.
Dave
It's a Viton one if you want it to last.
