I just used a 60lt Waco that was mounted behind the rear seat on the passenger side along the car. The lid opened toward the side window. This was efficient and effect. I would have have gone any bigger personally. I would actually probably get more value out of the same physical size but a fridge freezer.

47L ARB. Fits between the back of the rear seats and the back door nicely ... and opens end on, not side on ... would probably _just_ fit with a barrier ... but I'd measure twice and cut once just to be sure

    Hi Fluids,
If your ARB fridge is the one I have seen, the lid also easily detaches completely, so it is easy to lift the basket/s out even if there is not space above the lid for it to open fully. Is that the one you have?
I reckon it's a great feature, one that helps to make the best use of available space, without needing a slide-out base.

The Evakool ED50 does fit with a barrier. (ED50 is the 60litre esky with the freezer compressor in it)

I'm not sure if they still make these.

Full height cargo barrier and Waeco 60 liter on a slide (Black Widow, I think).
I took off the handle on the end that goes up to the barrier to allow it to fit and still have clearance at the barrier and the door.

There are a couple of things to bear in mind when you are thinking about the internal volume of the fridge rather than the external dimensions.

It doesn't matter how small it is; if you organise yourself properly it will be big enough.

It doesn't matter how big it is; you will still manage to fill it up.

When I borrowed a 15 litre Engel for a trip to the NT with SWMBO and our two offspring, it never occurred to me that I might need a bigger fridge.

They do fit with a barrier. I've got both the ARB fridge and black widow barrier. Although I'm thinking of moving my fridge to the camper trailer so my dogs have more room.

    Thanks to all the replys.
I have a home made cargo barrier, so I can easily modify if need be.
I will have to try my BIL 40ltr Engle for size. Problem is I still have not decided how I want to organise the cargo area. Lots of ideas floating around in my head.
I need to get the fridge first and work around that.

Yes, the lid detaches with a bit of a yank, so if there's limited room above to raise the lid you can slid it out horizontally. The side opening fridges make it hard to open the lid IF you have the fridge install end on. I found the 47L ARB to be the ideal fit.

Later on I put a Drifta setup in (have a look in my photo gallery on AULRO for pictures of the setup). The fridge sits on top of the drawers and JUST fits but I had to install it on a drop slide because the height of the drawers with a slide on top meant that when the fridge got slid out it's about 150mm below the foxwing awning .... Hard to open the lid, and too high of the ground ... Drop slide solved that.

Fridge now lives in the Kamper!
