Thats what we have had for 30 yrs.

Been a fantastic fridge, never missed a beat, although the compressor is starting to get a bit noisy.

Fits in the D2 easy leaving heaps of room for anything else, the kitchen sink etc.

40l Ironman, has been excellent. Don't need a slide. Can lift lid to access contents when it's facing for and aft...doesn't take up much room that way. Very efficient and whisper quiet compressor. Cheers

Interesting the number of other fridges being mentioned here. Given the marketing of Engel, you'd think they are near the only 12v car fridge sold although Waeco are becoming popular.

Unfortunately they are power hungry buggers though... (Compared to their later offspring)

Mine MR40F (New plastic engel) averages well under 2 amp / Hr. It will pull between 2 and 3 amp when the compressor is running but it doesn't run that often. I did work it out once with a watt meter but I can't remember what it was. I know it was well under 2 and that's what I calculate for some I have a decent margin.

    Happy Days.

Correct, thats one of the reasons i am saving up for a another.

But as you would appreciate,if something has served you for all those years,it is hard to retire it for those reasons, but i probably should.

The insulation would also not be as good as a new one.

Last year my late brother's old engel ( which must have traveled at least 2 million kilometers) , he was a wide load pilot and truck driver has died.
I replaced it with a 3 way lumina from Aldie.. It keeps cool on the road with 12 volt supply and when I get to my camp site the first thing I do is change it over to gas. It is a very good cheap little cooler.
I don't expect too much from it as it only cools to 25 below ambient. But if it is that hot I am out of there anyway!
