    TD5 Starter Motor Solenoid?

    Hello all
I have an intermittent problem. Turn the ignition key to start the engine and nothing, no click no nothing. Try again and it starts no problem. Or it doesn't, try again and it starts no problem. some time 4 or 5 tries, last night the first try.
The remote locking-unlocking work fine. Head lights nice and bright, so not a battery issue. When it starts it starts straight away.
From what I have gathered this is the starter solenoid getting flaky, am I right?

If not what else would look at?

    Thanks

    Bo

Hi, if it was the solenoid contacts you should have heard a loud click when the plunger hits, if no click at all(not even a very gentle one) it might be a problem with the relay or ignition switch if you concentrate and hear a quiet click it means the ignition is ok then the most common is bad contact at the small lucar connector on the solenoid, bad contact/corrosion on the starter main positive lead or 'tired' relay... if these contacts are OK when it fails to start give a tug to the starter with something contendent and if it starts then it measn the brushes are worn

From what you describe I'd be leaning towards bad contacts in the solenoid.
Before you do it check the solenoid power wire is tight.
A fellow member had a situation where the outer plug was tight but the terminals within where loose.

If your handy on the tools the solenoid contacts are a job you can do at home.
Have search for some threads on the repair.
    Cheers, Kyle

In an attempt to detect a click click or silence I tried the starter last night and this morning. 8 times the motor started, out of 8 tries. I'll have a look at the electric cables over the weekend and see if any are loose, dirty etc.
