Yep. Well its going in the shed now. Unfortunatley what i thought would be a project, is what i fear will be never ending money pit. Will ponder over it and decide in the next week if i will keep it as a project or move it on. Bought a new patrol today as my daily drive. Perhaps a few weekends of not touching the disco will rekindle my enthusiasm. If not ill list it for sale.

I leased it. And honestly what it costs me per week will be cheaper than what im spending on the disco.
    Ive owned 2 patrols before.
Did lots of kms in them and ive never been worried i wouldnt get home.
Unfortunately in my landy i worry every time i drive it.
Dont get me wrong, i luv driving the disco. But when things break every week, even after i do ALL the maintenace and then some, its just wearing a bit thin.
I know these things need a little more attention, perhaps i just got a bit of a lemon.
But its turned from an enjoyable hobby to a frustrating time user, which is now eating way too much into my family time just to keep it running.

Probbably the wrong forum to have a whinge like this. Dont mean to offend anyone ....

I hear you, once you lose confidence in one it can be difficult to get it back.

    Don't think you've offended anyone.
I, personally, was just surprised because I used to be in your position. When i first read your post, i felt sorry for ya. Wondering how much to spend, and when etc. etc. Been there myself, many times.
So when you said you'd just gone out and bought a new Pootrol, after complaining about your Disco, i saw red.
    Am ok now.

... I went through a stage where I burnt the arse out of 2 sets of catalytic converters, and was getting a max 50km out of a ignition module before it melted itself to a gooey mess. Each drive, I set out with a fully charged mobile phone and the best NRMA roadside coverage that money could buy...

After many, many, hours on the multi-meter, I narrowed it down to a faulty coil pack. It was within spec according to the workshop manual, but was earthing itself out and continuously trying to charge the coil. Replaced the whole wiring loom and have never looked back.
Moral of the story, it's like escalated commitment. The work you do now will be all for naught if you throw it in. whether it's a landy or a datsun, same principles apply.

As an example, I spoke too soon.
I have fitted my new parts and it's still not quite right. The next part to check off is a $500 fuel pump.
So I was pretty bummed when the new parts didn't fix the problem. I'm about to go and spend the next 4 months in West Wyalong working 72 hours a week.
I'm taking the disco to prove to myself that it can still take it. Plus I can't sleep in a dual cab Ute
