Weirdly, airflow seems right at idle and 4000rpm.

    Anyone else had this happen?
Normally the answer would be yes. Mine read the same when it failed. You can try disconnecting the MAF and going for a drive, if you get better throttle response (after the ECU detects it has been disconnected, normally 3 surges) than there is a good chance it is buggered.

the large O ring sits inside the airbox lid in a recess and doesnt usually come out with the maf.
it is normal for the reading on nanocom to show 4.4 after shutdown and as i said before the problem is if it reads 4.4 when the engine is running, op has stated it reads normal at idle and at 4000 rpm.
I have 6 td5 discoverys here at the moment and can guarantee they will all be the same, oh and 1 tdv6 in for a turbo , what long weekend

There was one thick black o-ring on the airbox side on mine IIRC. I recall looking at it and wondering if it was still making a good seal.

Perhaps coincidentally since cleaning the MAF my engine and water temps (via Engine Saver & Nanocom respectively) are up ~2-4c
