Just busted me gut for half the morning pulling the spare wheel carrier of Bluey (D2) to swap it for the one off the D1 I have for parts. Never even looked at the stud pattern/spacing until I had them both off. What a bugger! Here I was foolishly thinking that LR would stick with common stud patterns, at least whilst the wheel sizes remain constant!
Ah well, at least I've got the chance to clean out behind the vapour barrier on the tailgate!
The Geolanders I had still had tread at 50,000, but like Most Yokys I have had , they ‘went off’ and lost grip. Good while they lasted though. Kevin bought them for me.Quote:

I will be changing my Yoky's before my next big trip even though they are still very much "Legal" and I will keep them as spare casings "Just in case" as there is still plenty of wear left on them.
The only reason I will be changing them is because I have a policy of not attempting a long trip that will involve a fair bit of remote off road work without my tyres being at least 75% for obvious reasons.

i may have fried the ecu and engine loom.
not only did the smoke get out, there were flames too
****, how’d that happen?
so ive got my main battery and 2 aux batteries separated by an isolation switch
something had been bringing down the batteries voltagewise, so i wanted to isolated the batteries to see if it was one battery that had gone bad and was pulling the other down.
i rang the manufacturer, explained my problem and agreed on my course of action. to deactivate the switch and isolate the batteries, all thats required is to remove the earth/ground wire from it.
the bolt for the earth is underneath the unit, so i picked up the unit a few cm's. something sparked, i dropped the unit, something sparked again, the elec fans turned on and the smoke came out. i went to go get a spanner to disconnect the negative from the battery as i came back, there was more smoke and flames coming from the engine loom. the wiring was live and melting/shorting in front of me.
my firefighter training kicked in and i poured water on the electrical fire. with the flames out, i disconnected the negative from both the main battery and the aux battery.
im guessing the isolator shorted or an unwanted feed though somewhere. i really cant understand how this happened.

Checked the MAF today - plugged in the HAWKEYE and at idle the MAF reading was fluctuating 50-49. I understand from a past sierraferry post that a good MAF should read between 55-65. I have a de-EGR’d 10P TD5 and i understand that a failing MAF is not that critical because it doesn’t directly influence fuelling on that motor.... would that be correct?

My experience with Yokohamas goes back to A008s and Advans on my fast FIATs, and more recently to passenger tyres for my Fords. Every Yoky I have ever had reached around 75% of tread life and just "went off", as I put it. Pressures meant nothing, the grip was just gone. The Geolanders I got were no different. Perhaps our demands differ.Quote:
