Enormous! [emoji51]
If I’d have caught it prior to putting all that nice fresh oil in I’d have pulled the sump off.
It might be a chunk of the structural ribbing from the sump itself. There’s what appears to be a dent in it which is worrying. This engine got rebuilt before I owned the car so goodness knows what history applies here. I’m hoping it’s a bit of vibration / metal fatigue finishing off something prior to the rebuild.
Is it metal or plastic?
Could it be from timing chain runner thingo, did see some pics on here ages ago, but they were orange [emoji848]
Cast aluminium, can you take a pic of the dent in the sump?
Inside. It did indeed fit through the plug hole. I guess the suction force of the oil exiting helped a bit. It must have come out lengthwise. I heard it hit the bottom of the drain pan but didn’t realise that’s what I heard at the time and only put two and two together after I’d finished up and was emptying the pan. I mean who expects something that big to drop out?

Here is the nick / dent up close. There’s a second parallel mark to the right. The shiny scratches on the upper right were me confirming it was metal with a screwdriver.
