Hahaha, I knew that would open a can of worms!

Andrew, I won't take my girl onto the beach, I just can't do it.
Shes spen't her entire life around Alice Springs before I took her, so I really value having no corrosion (so far)

I loved the 255/85's on the Deefer but they squirmed all over the place on road.
    But it's a Defender, so I didn't care.
And it was a bloody weapon off road.

The Disco drives so nicely on the black top atm, but the old GT Radials are like iron now.
And I treat it like an SUV off road.
I can get the ABS hammering away easily in the dry, and set the car up with lovely big slides over 80km/h un the wet.

Haha Rick. That D2 will last forever. Having said that my D2 has been used on the beach since New and 17 years and no rust. All in the washing out. The fat wheels look good for sure. It will handle nicely with fats.

    Cheers

Our d2a nearly hsd a sister. Went to look at a 2004 ES with new auto not registered but with TRS chip for 6k.

Asked heaps of qs on phone b 4 embarking on a 600k round trip in the trusty swift.

Specifically asked @ the engine..does it use oil. .does it blow smoke..erc etc..no all good he said.

Well you know where this is going. .don't you😐

Car was very neat..must have been someone's baby once. Everything clean n shiny including a shiny auto underneath..and. amazingly no oil leaks at all😎

Mmm I'm suspicious..something has to be wrong.

Started the engine. Took a couple of cranks. ..mmm mine kicks off straight away. It's been standing for months he said. Can we drive it.. aaa..it's not registered he said.

He agreed to driving down the street to a cul de sac.
.well it took off like a rocket. ..gotta get a TRS tune I said to the daughter!

Dad. She said. What all that smoke? Clouds of grey black and blue out the back. Geez i said..the engine's or turbo is rooted.

Got back. He looked kinda sheepish. .took off the oil cap and it was chuffing like an old steam train.

Not done that b 4 he said.

Yeah sure I said. ..thanks for wasting my time.

.. by the way I said. How's your V6 gas guzzling jeep going?

Guess what arrived in my shed today - the box not the solar panel. You can see the panel, that’s not much of a guess!

Rear bar, new, really really good price. I’m planning to make twin swing sways before fitting. Can’t decide on 1 tyre and twin jerry holders and put the spare tyre on the roof when we go to the Simpson later this year, or twin tyre holders.

    Thoughts?

Single jerry can holder...leave spare on door. ...raise mount to suit tyre size...n take couple tubes in case of massive puncture that snot won't fix.

I used full tank plus 10l from B vilke to Dare.. way less that the patrols n cruisers on same trip across. MTs no punctures over 10 000ks.

Changed the oils in the diffs and transfer case.

It's no big deal to get to the filler next to the handbrake cable. I used a 3/16 to 1/2 inch converter with an extension that was about 150MM long that fitted between the brake drum and muffler guard. The reason is that the smaller diameter extension fits more upright into the square drive hole when against the brake backing plate. It still can get a bit tight so its important to make sure it doesn't enter the square drive fully.

I first tried a short wobble extension but the female end of the wobble was hard up against the brake drum.

I filled all the diffs and transfer using a 1litre Penrite bottle which has a nozzle on it. Good clearance on the diffs give or take steering rods, but a bit fiddly on the transfer when only about 800 ml could be squeezed in each fill .
I used Penrite Pro gear 75-90 full synthetic which is a bit pricey.

There was a bit of steel paste on both diff plug magnets which hadn't been changed for 5? years but very little on the transfer plug .

    Regards Philip A
