Broke down between Quirindi and Gunnedah. Fuel flowing freely from around the regulator when running. Now waiting for a tow back to Quirindi.

Just did a change of all the diff and transfer oils and rad coolant.Cleaned the inside. A bit uncertain with the oil that came out of the transfer, does not look or smell like a gear oil, brownish with a viscosity of engine oil! Was supposedly changed when the gearbox was recoed. At least I have another in the shed to rebuild.....1 day job.

Charlie had a good wash to clean off the mud from Easter. Now the driveway needs washing

After this I replaced the broken plastic plenum panel under the wipers, with a new one. Looks a lot neater.

    Cheers

Drove Strathbogie to Cairns via Canberra in 2001 Td5 Auto.
3.5 days on road, 3268km and used 341 litres of diesel.
I must say that I am pretty happy with that consumption as I was expecting to use 15% more based on what I have heard about Td5 consumption.
Thanks to Roverlord and Outback1 for helping get the car on the road over the last couple months as there were times I was ready to give up!
    Cheers, Charlie

Fixed a water leak from a hose

Since I put all new hoses in my 2002 TD5 about 3 years ago, I have had a leak from the short hose which goes from the water pump to the steel tube to the Thermostat.
I always thought it was leaking from the reinforcing of the hose, but yeaterday I pulled it apart and it was a damn jubilee clip not quite tight enough although feeling tight on the water pump stub.

Anyway I had bought a new OE hose at fabulous cost so I decided to fit it and had to then flush the coolant. The OE hoses come with constant tension spring clips and I guess I am the only fan in the world for these. I have the special tool to fit them and they went on so easily.

The Red Nulon coolant came out beautifully clean without one bit of debris or chunks or anything, but I replaced it anyway. I didn't have any problem with airlocks or anything. It just filled up and about a litre ran out of the bleed screw before I noticed.
BTW I have a brass bleed screw and it came out perfectly. I added a little anti seize to it and only screw it finger tight as it has an Oring.

TIP always see if you can undo your bleed screw BEFORE doing anything else as if the thread breaks out of the hose , you need a new hose. Ask me how I know.
    Regards Philip A
