That would do it I reckon too!
It's funny how sometimes(being a landrover) you assume the worst(possible problem) when it's usually the most obvious issue.

A few years ago I was doing some work to brothers D2(TD5), I noticed no brake lights down back .. all three not working.
Instead of checking the obvious .. blown bulbs, I took hours, which turned to a couple of days of tracing wires, removing the (working) switch(not easy to do) .. etc.
And you wouldn't have think it, but it was simply all 3 globes blown at the same time.

    Thermostat!!!!

I drove from Williamstown to Footscray and the temp gauge was struck on the bottom. I checked it with the Nanocom. It says coolant 69.5C then 69.3C Bugger! I changed the thermostat about two and half years ago. Just then the gauge rose up. Nanocom says 70.6 C. 5 mins later the temp is 85C. I did not think that it was that cold outside. I am just pleased that the car is fine.

Definately the easiest and cheapest breakdown fix ever on my D2a

Today I drove the 4.6. She definitely feels like an old girl after spending so long in the Trito but it felt good and sounded good. Great kit. Took her offroad to keep the diff lock and low range spigots free. Spot lights decided to stop working so that is on the cards to fix when I get round to it. Cheers

Clean the plug on the sensor . The gauge should go half way/normal at 70c.

85 seems a bit hot for winter unless idling in traffic for a while.

    My money's on FPR.
That should guarantee you an easy repair, far from the FPR.

Found the leek.... You were right it was FPR related, that nut had backed out and was hanging on by a few threads, seems fine now no leaks.

Got sprayed in the face but while looking haha

    The same happened to me.
IMHO it is more that the union reaches a "false bottom" and you think it is done up but it isn't. Mine started suddenly ****ing at an intersection and other driver stold me. Once I saw where it was I was able to tighten it and no more leak.
And to top it off months later the front one started to leak in Byron Bay. This time I had to buy a new Oring and tighten it, and it is the most inaccessible nut on the bloody car and probably in all of automotive history.
