Thanks guys, I have just had a look, they seem like the ducks guts, will have to keep saving though, shipping was about $350 US so worked out to be close to $1100 AU, at that rate I could just about get the old shaft re-cardaned as it is a HD unit but the center ball on the cardan joint gave way and also cracked the end part. Something else to look into, thankfully no super rush as I can just get around with CDL engaged and no front drive shaft if need be.

Tom Woods Discovery 2 Front Double Cardan Drive Shaft

I would advised against Tom woods, I had it brand new failed after 2 years, Tom woods himself said to bad so sad with the failed prop,


Had 6 mates who ran TW all failed and I have bought 4 wrecked d2 with TW shafts that broke

I went Glywn Lewis which is far superior build quality and support

We also killed a TW in short order, no back up support.

I had HS rebuild / upgrade done and no issues at all.

RE: TW, ok that is surprising feed back as on the website they sound almost unbreakable.

I have actually sent off an email enquiry to Hardy Spicer asking about getting a new cardan unit put onto my damaged drive shaft (would be a complete unit as the shaft side is damaged) will see what it comes back at, the Bunbury branch is only about an hour away so would be super handy, hopefully it is viable as the rest of the shaft is fine (only 18 months old)

What broke on the Tom Woods ones? When he had the non-greasable centre bearings I would break one ever 11 months, but as soon as he went to his own Disco2 flange and the greasable centre bearing I've never broken one.... mind you I've also never greased the centre bearing unless someone has done it during servicing.

Hes been so good with me. Supplied another shaft when one got lost in transit, then when it did turn up he just said keep it. He gave me a heap of spare parts incase I needed them while remote touring, I could probably rebuild 2 DC joints with what I've got. He's spent a heap of time with me. I'm really surprised at the other feedback. He will build them in 1330 or 1350 for you if they're not strong enough for your application.

The double cardigan part, he wasn’t very nice to me or other so I went over to the uk and got Glywn Lewis and it’s double the size

I have a Hardy Spicer HD greasable in for repairs at Hardy Spicer at 38,000 km, no offroad work. Centre ball has failed and gave the
TC front seal a workout getting home.
Has been with HS for 6 weeks now waiting a new ball !!!! with no date of expected arrival.
Two genuine Landrover (from new) shafts averaged 95,000km each. Makes one think a little about the value of the HD greasables.

Local Indie who checked the TC and replaced front seal no longer installs Greasable shafts due to numerous early failures. Insists on
Landrover genuine at now just over$1000.
Air con drains were extended after 1st failure.
