What happened to your Discovery 2 today?

But yesterday was fun, NOT!:censored:

Went to Mildura to pick up personal belongings from ex my 2002 TD5 Disco. I went in my NEW TD5 Disco IIA, 2003, when I got to the intersection where the accident occurred I, well the car, split a top hose, cut off the end and refitted while I waited for RACV with the aqua.:(

Any how, loaded all my crap that was intended for the holiday into my new car, hooked up the rather mangled caravan and set off for home.:D

Got picked up be the Vic Highway Patrol, they reaconned the van looked a bit sus with all that card board and tape.:nazilock:

After a good look around licence and rego checks they let me go.

Car overheated again, damn. Split the top hose again, it was so perrished it just blew up like a balloon, only way out was take off the pressure cap, turn off the air con and luckily, watch the Nanocom like a hawk, I figured if I could stop the temp getting any where near boiling it wouldn't disappear so quickly.:angel:

Any way, to cut an even longer story short, I managed to travel home with the old fashioned air conditioning, some of you will remember, wind the windows down, but that caused, well it didn't cause it, but I could hear these little tweety birds chirping away from under the car.:eek:

So, proceed and drop a tailshaft, stay where I am and find out which one is the culprit and disconnect it? 36 degrees in the shade, a bloody site hotter under the car, I thought eff it I'll keep going, sometimes down to 15KPH, trying to keep out of everyone on the roads way, got home late last night, Hoo Bloody Ray.:cool:

Today the set of silicon hoses I have been waiting for turned up, another big cheer!:D

Right, hopefully that will be one problem fixed, but I might have a two wheel drive Landy for a while.:confused:

Driving along and the steering went hard, battery light came on and strange flapping noises from the engine bay. Managed to get the car safe and first thought is serpentine belt. Have a look and sure enough shredded belt. No worries always carry a spare. Getting dark though and I've only got my phone for light which is going to make things tricky. Must carry a decent torch in the car. So I start pulling the fan shroud off and I noticed the ACE pump pulley is touching the fan! At first I thought the fan was damaged and maybe that was why the belt got damaged. But it was the ACE pulley had somehow come out of the pump. How does that happen? Tried to put it back in and I could make the pump work but it wouldn't stay in.

Nice ride home in a flatbed!

Anybody know if the pump is fixable or is it toast?

It's the power steering pump; I got my pumps mixed up. Lucky me as it's a much cheaper repair.

Not today, but just prior Xmas...
Dropped and flushed oil with flushing concentrate , new filters, sump gaskets , oil pump bolt thread locker (yes it was half out!) , box and diff oils, water pump, idler pulley, belt, and rear drive flex couple + pads brake system overhaul. A good 12th birthday pressie for her.

The to do list before we head off on a 12 month lap at the end of the year is now only suspension (old king and billy setup is too soft) , cargo area organisation , front seat comfort upgrade
, exhaust (the current 3" is too noisy and some monitoring of vital signs (egt, box oil temp, oil pressure).

Over the past couple of weeks had the following done.

200000 km service
Had the extended transfer case sumo fitted with cooling fins.

Replaced the blown poly airbag with Firestone replacements.

Finally had my TD5 cooling sandwich adaptor fitted for my EMS1 to allow coolant temp measurement. No to sort the stupid oil pressure alarm as it keeps going off.

Had five new tyres fitted Bridgestone D674's muddies to reckon my very old and worn BF all terrains (265/75R16's) I have these D674's fitted my Kia Sportage as well (245/75R16's) Very happy with the ride on road performance, wear so far and price especially hear in Darwin. $242 per tyre and only had to pay for four. :banana: :ehigh5: steers great, vibration is gone and the noise is pretty good. Happy with that result.

Cut polish and wax yesterday to my very neglected duco. Nice and shiny.
Unfortunately sustained damage in the process with two big dents in the bonnet and a tear from where the roof rack hit it whilst trying to remove it. :censored:

Finally fitted my passenger side awning whilst roof rack was off.:D

Installing my centre console big cup holders today :cool:

I've repaired the binnacle cowl. No more gaff tape.

4runnernomore, can you give us a heads up on the cup holders please.

What I did today was remove the front drive shaft, I mentioned the little tweety birds all the way back from Mildura, well the front cardan joint Uni was totally sea birded.

I had purchased a silicone hose kit but it is so different I am not going to use it. I'll try get my money back on that.

Yes they are, to be specific, cormorants are known as shags.
As in "I saw a shag over the holidays" This went down ok at the Catholic High School I went to in England.

I had to drive to brissy today from the Sunshine Coast and around Lutwidge I checked the outside temp,, and it said 40,, :o
in fact trips both in and out were around 39,,
so we sat in 3 lanes of bumper to bumper traffic for 30 minutes each way once we hit Brissy outskirts,

while its not the red centre, and I didnt have a caravan on, 40 is still 40,, I figure the fact the cars temp never got over 92 is a result for my D2 cooling system,,
