first thing is that my brother wanted to swap cars with me, and I spent the day stressing about what he was going to do to it. Does anyone else experience this anxiety when you loan your Discovery out, or is it just me?

Anyway, this evening I was at Church when a horn starts beeping in the car park, then stops after 10 seconds or so. 15 minutes later it starts up again. and everyone is looking at me. Turn out the ICE antitheft system has a motion sensor that doesn't like the wind allowed in when the windows are left even a small part open. Fun. does anyone know if you can disconnect some wiring, or pull out a fuse to stop this? car gets too warm in 30+ degrees to want to close it all up.

the other thing that I have noticed is that it has a body leak that ends up dripping into roughly the centre of the passenger footwell from under the dash. I came to the conclusion that it is a result of the windscreen wiper surround (plenum cover?) having several large cracks in it, which is allowing water to run down between steel/plastic bodywork below the windscreen, and eventually into the cabin. is this accurate, or is there another more likely cause?

Overall, the ownership experience has been good so far. I've taken it for a service/inspection at my local Land Rover independant (Hardy's Automotive, Grovedale VIC) and they turned up just one mechanical issue one very minor oil leak (fuel pressure regulator? Cam cover?) that we will fix in due course, so pretty happy with the old girl.

Long post, so cheers if you got to the end.

Welcome to the club Cal. The alarm was triggered by the volumetric sensors, the good news is that they can be turned off via a Land Rover specific diagnostic tool, LR Testbook, Nanocom or Hawkeye to name a few. You are correct about the plenum cover not sealing against the windscreen, water is dripping off the lower edge of the windscreen glass directly into the heater blower fan inlet duct.

Yes, just lock it with the key, i.e. put key in door and rotate key.
There's bound to be a youtube video on this., if there ain't, there will be!!

Mad rush to car with video camera!

Before I had a Land Rover I did not have any torque wrenches. Now I have three.

    lol thanks man

Cheers guys, I will try the classic 'lock the door the manual way' in the future. Will also probably buy a nano-com in future, and turn that feature off.

Cheers onebob, upon closer inspection the windscreen is pretty badly sealed all up so I'll be resealing the whole screen AND replacing the plenum cover.

    Good fun.

This is what I do every time, as well as having it disabled via Nanocom. What happened to your Discovery 2 today?

I do not see the point in disabling the volumetric sensor. It is only when the windows are open that the alarm will go off. On those days Just lok the door with the key.

Or if you've locked the car with a moth inside!

The D2 is in Cloncurry & I am in Doomadgee.
The roads opened last week & I was supposed to drive a vandalised hire car down for repair & the D2 back. Unfortunately things did not work out.
So, I arranged to do the drive down this Friday & a bloody Cyclone turns up & it has been raining for 2 days.
We will see what happens with the rivers & roads but I doubt Friday will be on.
Asked SWMBO to start her up, she got our oldest to go & drive it up & down the driveway a couple of times so at least I know she still starts.
