I'm sorry you don't get it.
It was intended to be an amusing ironic response to the many perceived problems of D2 ownership vs the latest and greatest.
I am 188 cm or so and I don't really have a problem with the mirror but mine is the manual so may be smaller, and of course that is probably a partial solution to your problem, if you can live without the auto dipping.
Another solution is to perhaps lean the seat back a bit.
IMHO the benefits of the high driving position giving great view far outweigh any minor disadvantage like having to lean over to see traffic lights.
I can recall my swmbo reaction after sitting in a D4 of "don't like it I feel all closed in"
    Regards Philip A

Have to say I've never noticed it as an issue, so the answer to part of your question is, yes, I guess I got used to it. That said, it's a particularly useless thing. I only ever use the side mirrors, because one, I'm a truckie, and that's all you get, and two, all I can see in the centre mirror is the headrest on the back seat. Oh, and the compass. What a pointless thing that is. If I'm ever that lost I'll pull the one out of the glovebox. Or use my phone.

Driven a VE/VF Commodore? The pillars are awful. Try a Scania R series Prime Mover, You could miss the USS Nimitz in the blind spot at an intersection. Gotta look around it. ADR's only stipulate percentages.

As far as I am aware, please don't quote me, discovery are classed as commercial and as such the rear windows can be blocked out completely so not requiring rear view mirror same as vans trucks etc. could be wrong though haven't been in the trade for a long time.
    Cheers tt
