D2 a/c dash control unit into earlier model/s?

Does anyone know if the later D2 dash a/c control unit can easily be retrofitted to an earlier version? My 1999 D2 dash in the RRC has the older version with the dials for heat/cold control, and I'd like to make the two cars consistent so the navigator can work out whats what in either.

I suspect not Gavin, though it will fit the additional climate control wiring for temp sensors and squirrel fan etc a won't be there. Remember the soft dash classic was 5 years before the introduction of the D2 and neither it or the D1 had the option of climate control.

    Cheers

Cheers. I assume then that the climate control version is the one as pictured, and the earlier D2s, like the D1s, were not climate control - remembering that the PO fitted a compete 1999 D2 dash to replace the RRC one - Why I can't recall except may have made some of the changeover electrics for the TD5 a bit simpler?

Yep that's the climate control box, but all D2's sold in Australia came with climate control standard, even though the manual system was available overseas. So if the PO stripped/replaced the entire dash, HVAC system, wiring and not just replaced the essential bits for the TD5 transplant then you may be lucky. If so it may be just plug and play.

There is a lot of commonality between the soft dash classic, D1 and D2 dashes, but also a lot of differences.

    Cheers

Not all D2s did actually.. there was a run of basic models:

    steel wheels all round
    5 seats
    Twin dial HVAC

If you want to fit a D2 aircon control unit like in the pic to a RRC that will not work cos this unit works together with the Td5 engine ECU for compresor and cooling fan control...eventually if you make some wiring mods for that

Yes, but only for the 2002 model year and according to the MY02 brochure I have, it had automatic aircond, the same as all other models in the range, along with remote central locking and immobiliser.

Just to confuse things it was called the S model but for 2003 the S model was the mid spec 7 seater with SLS.

I was under the impression that all aussie D2s had the climate control. My 99 did.Havent seen one with the D1 style controls.
Makes sense with your fitting Gavin,no need to have the D2 BCU ecu with the old type.

AFAIK that ''old type" like on the D1 is only on modells without aircon from factory, it's for heater control(nr.2), those with aircon have the module from the OP's pic(nr.1) Allbrit.de - Ersatzteile f?r LAND ROVER & MG ROVER

The couple I drove had analogue controls...
    5 cloth seats
    Steel wheels

Both at local dealer at the time.
