I often read when changing the Turbo you have to Change the Oil Feed pipe too!
Did this somebody here? Why or why not?
Re intercooler: I bought a D2a intercooler from a guy why upgraded to a $1000 aftermarket intercooler. When I asked him if it's worth it, he said that it has made a difference just not $1000 & that he wished that he hadn't of done it.
Not sure if that helps or not

SubscriberSerck do a bigger intercooler and it is sold by Paddock or Serck directly. Freight is high but I think my total cost was about $700. It makes a great difference to EGTs and enables me to use cruise control while towing( if the hills are not too steep)

Just pulled off my turbo cartridge this afternoon. Only took about 20 minutes, easy job. Will fit new one tomorrow after I have cleaned up the snail (good grief, about 2mm of built up gunk inside). I'm thinking I should pull out my intercooler and have it cleaned if I can't find a suitable replacement. Any thoughts on how to clean them? It should be easy to pull out - mine sits in front of the aircon condenser, so it's the first one off.
When I pulled off the intake, I noticed this inside the pipe (is this original? Looks a bit weird to me):

SubscriberIt's a hiclone , not original, chuck it away , if your intercooler sits in front of the condenser its probably not original either , any chance of a pic ?, do you know what your max boost was before?

SubscriberMy God they are still around.
I bought one way back when and tested it on my RRC . I got 17.1 Lper 100 going to Brisbane with it in and identical back to Sydney without it.
I only bought because a bloke that I knew in the RR Club swore to me that he had got 25MPG with it in.
So much for Testimonials.

Fitted it up today and went for a run. Definitely noticed a difference. It seems less laggy from take off - maybe widened to torque band a little? But getting less boost than before. Used to get solid 15psi, now can't get over 13. Do I need to adjust the waste gate?
Problem is I don't know what was in it before, and I did remove the hyclone thing. I do know there is MORE play in the bearing/shaft than the one that I took out.
Anyway, now I have a spare and know how to do it and know that I can do it on the side of the road I need too.
Pics of intercooler for you discorevy
I'm guessing it's genuine as it got a defender 99MY sticker on it:
