Yes, technology is improving, but retro fitting new technology to old technology is not ying and yang . Your lights and reflectors are old technology, fitting a new technology bulb does not make your light new technology.
Jazzman, you drive a vehicle that has been lifted, has higher tyres, your vehicle is higher over all than standard, Be on the receiving end of some of these lights in a smaller sedan etc and have these type of lights hit you directly in the eye.. Not all will flash oncoming cars with bright lights, so it doesn't make it right.

The LED is not as bright!!

I've looked at both headlights, Right in t the headlights the LED does not seem as bright. It may be that the LED light part is smaller and less light gets thrown forwards.

As for people with dodgy lights, the Bill do nowt for them taskers wot have fog lights on wit nowt fog on road.
    Just sayin'

While I agree there are many people who are not considerate of others on this earth, i'm confident this is not one of those moments. I do drive a Suberu Impressa occasionally too and understand your point. I've even asked others if it was an issue when driving behind them in my Disco.

Did you consider everyone else who walks into your house before moving along with technology and upgrading the incandescent globes in your house with LEDS? Or did the energy savings and idea of not having to change them regularly have an impact on your decision? Maybe it was fashion?

    Lets not get carried away.

I have been loving my Globes, night vision so much better, which for me means safer, but this of course swings both ways, and I don't know how strong they are for oncoming traffic, especially on the hills and bends for my local driving.

Driving home on Friday, to be fair he was a dick-head of a driver, but after we went over the brow of a hill, he pulled over, let me pass and then flashed me.

I have subsequently got the wife to go in front of me and she said they are too bright, the lights in her opinion 'too big' as she put it (D2A). So I don't want to change the bulbs as they are so much better, and with one incident in 2 months driving (I drive at night at least 4 times a week), it cannot be too bad, but I have decided to try and do something to improve it.

My initial thought is to buy some thin film of darkened tape to put across the top inch of headlight, and see what difference this will make ? Has anyone done something similar ?

intersting you mention LED in houses, I have warm ones, these are good on the eyes, but I have seen some where is is like a you at the pearly gates of heaven, the ultra white glow that lights up like a dazzled kangeroo in the 20 zillion candle power spotlight. LED's in cars is not about energy savings,

    LEDs in at last!

I've finally got the LED main and high beams in. No more yearly changing of the incandescent globes. The main beam focus, stays where it should, looking at it from down the road, the main beam does not shine in your eyes. I can't see that it will affect oncoming cars.
The high beam!! that is bright.

A real pain removing the headlights past the bull bar. I had to order a E star socket set to remove those stupid star bolts. Well I took three out, the fourth one snapped off. I've had to drill out the rest of the bolt and put in a 8mm self tapping metal bolt. I'm not happy with the fix and as soon as I can get the correct nut and bolt, I'll put those in. It is on the list.

Yes there is a special yellow tint, i think it is like a polish. But i'm pretty sure once applied it then impregnates the plastic and cannot be reverted back to clear.

Don't stress about it, if you are concerned perhaps consider lowering the alignment, but i'm guessing this may be counter productive.
