    Discovery 2 ecu

Hi just after some info on the ecu in my discovery it has just died and was smoking it's burnt out how would I go about replacing it without having to put a $950 ECU and take the car 400km from where it is to get it done? Any info would be grateful

First question... a bit more detail about your discovery would help eg year, petrol or diesel, manual or auto.

Secondly and I may stand corrected by those more knowledgeable, it is possible, depending on the ECU to put in a new one in, but you will need diagnostic equipment like a nanocom to program it.

Thirdly, I would be digging deeper into the car to determine what caused the ecu to fry before putting another in. Sounds like a decent short somewhere.

    Forthly welcome to the forum.

    Cheers

    Steve

    Whereabouts are you?

$950 is a fair bit for an ecu I would have thought

Have you tried searching up the part number from your ECU on eBay?

That's definitely cooked. Discovery 2 ecu I'm guessing it's an MSB ECU. You can get a later model NNN ECU which can be remapped by a nanocom. Shouldn't cost you more then $400 to buy the later model ECU. But first you might need to figure out why your ECU cooked like that!

I had an ECU cook after a earth lead wasn't attached to engine and it used the handbrake cable as an earth that nearly caused a fire, the smoldering hand brake short cooked my ECU. V8 D2 that was

    Do you have a nanocom?

So that you could install a new ECU etc..
