Talking crawl factors, low range in a Landy is generally lower than most other mainstream 4x4's.
It's definitely lower than a GQ or GU Patrol for example.
Off the top of my head I can only think of the Wrangler Rubicon having a lower low range in stock form?
If 'tractor mode' is more referring to front tyre scrub when in 4wd, well yep, engage the CDL if you have it, but remember that the TC in that old Disco is still very very good, and at the time was state of the art.
It took a long time for the Japanese rivals to catch up on the TC front.
Oh, and you can buy a vacuum operate CDL activation kit out of the UK for around $250 landed, or even less.
I bought a pull cable operated version for $110 but will probably get the vacuum operated one as it's neater.
Wow this made me happy. The only one I can find is on ebay for about $200 Aud but dont ship to aus. Ill send em a message and ask if the can organize shipping to me.
The thing which wasnt mentioned here is that the CDL warning lamp should come on when the diff is locked unless the switch is gone or the plugs disconnected, when i fitted the linkage to mine('00 modell which had the internals but not the linkage) and locked it the warning lamp came on right away so fix that cos it's the best way to see if it's locked or not, You can reach the switch with a bit of contorsionism and check if the plugs are on it... to check the circuit you have to bridge them together which would bring on the warning and if this way you see it then replace the switch(shown with the arrow)

Yeah im not very good with doing fiddly things with my hands. Im going to pull the centre console out and hope I can see it all from there. I read somewhere the switches are prone to stop working, especially if they arent getting used.

Thanks man.
There's a bloke here in Oz importing them too, and his price is competitive with bringing them in yourself.
He's on one of the FB buy, sell, swap LR groups
