Do any of you know if a manual and auto ECU are the same, as I know where I could source an NNN from a manual?

Tins, where the hell is Hookturnistan? Google maps did not recognise it

Lol. Not familiar with the idiosyncrasies involving trams are you? Hook turns are a fact of life in Melbourne. The 'stan part comes from my contempt for our current govt, which I'm not allowed to elaborate on...

It would probably be for cost i'd suggest.

I think you'll find compatibility between versions of cars of all brands has decreased significantly since the TD5 was released!

Oh yes. I wonder if Toyota owners share our sense of humour about it though.

The NNN being programmable I though it might have been a case of selecting auto or manual, some where in settings.
    Dave.

I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."

The engine ECU for automatics doesn't have the ability to communicate with the clutch switch on a manual.

The engine ECU for manuals doesn't have the ability to communicate with the auto.

Circuitry is missing from both that would make them compatible.

I can see the dropping the comms circuitry to the tranny from the manual version to save costs, but getting rid of an input buffer for the clutch switch on the Auto versions doesn't make much sense. <- literally pennies saved. but yeah, Landrover.

Could a JTAG setup suck the main program out of the ecu for swapping to a different version? (DiscoTD5.com. aka offtrack would know)

    ECU's

In an emergency the manual ECU will work in the Auto, one just needs to then change gears manually!

They will all work in an emergency!

Offtrack would have all the info you need for sure.

You can add the clutch components to an auto spec, but the other way wouldn't be doable.
