    rail removal

    HI

I have found a TJM style rack that drops down at the front, but do I need to remove the curent front rails to fit them. this picks on this thread of the drop down G4 and tjms don't have rails to start with.

How do I remove them and what is the best way to plug the whole? without welding and painting?

    Cheers

Yes you do.... However there is a way around it... If you move the level of the front basket bit to the top of the frame.. then it is actually level front to rear...

Allowing the rails to stay and NO holes which i think is the better way forward..

Then if you need to take the full rack off you can still run 2 cross bars etc..

I would send you a picture but mine (Which i have done as above) is probably goining to be at the grit blasters for another 2 days..

As soon as its back i will post a pic..

    Sorry probably my ramblings.....

    The factory bars STAY...

The bottom of the front section on the TJM gets moved up to become the base of the top rail...

Hopefully will have a couple of pics to go on this arvo... Might still have a red tinge to it though from the grit...

Thanks...Hopefully you are referring to me!!!

Just thought it would give me more flexability.... rather than take off the original bars...

Will look a bit better on the truck once it is painted black.

Did that require the mounts to be cut off and welding back on?

    cheers

Yes. Should have done photos but got carried away in the process and just got on and did it!!! It was easy though....

The weld on the inside of the legs was ground off and I dropped the legs (there is leg section inside the formed side of the roof basket leg drop down).

On the second picture (mounted on car) the baskets front edge sits about 1.5 - 2 inches in front of the mounted disco roof bar. I normally run the basket further back....a hairs width away from the disco roof bar as I find thats the best place in regards of reducing the noise.... for what I carry...

Also you can see on the second picture where I zip welded the inner and outer leg again. There is still a section of leg leading from the gutter up behind the formed side of the roof basket drop down and again zip welded on the inside...

    Hope this 'explains' it.

Sounds a lot BUT easy as..

I will post some more pics when I get it back from its paint job.

    Thanks
