Update..
$270
Replaced the center bearing
Replaced both uni's with heavy duty greasable units ( hardy spicer special units )...so they say.
Put it back in, back to happy driving!!!
And it came back with fresh black paint, sealed in a plastic bag.
N.B Only downfall is that I carnt grease it while in the car, need to look at getting a smaller grease nibble attachment!

They consistently do a good job for me, but as mentioned above, you need to get the driveshaft out yourself. And that's not as easy as it sounds because those Land Rover nuts are very soft and easy to round off if you use a cheapier ring spanner. Do it with a proper socket.
And if in doubt, just replace the used nuts with new nylocs from Bursons or Repco.
I am very pleased to see that people have been repairing the uni's. My front shaft has started to make noises so I pulled it off and went to the local ie only rover mechanic expecting to have new uni's put in, but to my utter shock I was told they cant be repaired and I would have to buy a new drive shaft.
In the end I wasn't really surprised as this was the same place which said that they couldn't replace the bearings in an alternator, you have to buy a new alternator when the bearings start to go.
That place in Liverpool sounds ok, Rusty05 what was the turn-around time?
Here's the Hardy Spicer part #'s.
You can have either an OE spec DC or HD DC
From this thread HD DC or 1330 uni for front prop ?

Had my uni's replaced today. Lucky the thing did not explode on me, it was that close too a catastrophic failure.
Started as a slight clunk when going from R to D but only occasionally checked the Unis but they appeared to be tight - this was about 4 weeks ago. A couple of weeks ago it started to make a squealing sound around the 2000rpm like a loose fan belt or a bearing going bad in the engine compartment. I could only hear it when driving, and under load, if sitting still and revved the engine you could not hear it.
Finally crawled under it to adjust the hand brake and had a look around and saw the uni almost hanging out.
Now to put the prop shaft back in tonight - that will be fun by torch light!
