    Faultmate

Has someone here got one, if so what does it do, does it do what the Nanocom can do, does it do more, does it do what the Hawkeye does, can it do more.

So far as far as we can tell, all it does is clear faults, and for $1300 that seems a bit too much, considering the Hawkeye is less than half the price and does the same thing.

I/we have looked at the Blackbox web page for info on what it can do, and basically all it does is clear faults, the page doesn't give any more info other than that.

So, what more can it do

    Baz.
    Cheers Baz.

Here's what Faultmate does for the D3, reckon functionality for the D4 is about the same though have not yet seen a D4 specific module.

    Disco 4 info here DISCOVERY 4 (LR4) (SM134)

Assuming you want the FaultMate for a Disco 4, per the vehicle in your signature block?

The FaultMate does a lot more than clear faults. I'd be lost without it for my P38's and Freelander.

    Cheers, Paul.

Read all that, as far as I can determin that blurb just tells what the D3 and D4 ECUs do, not what the faultmate can do, other than clear faults and lights.

Faultmate needs to be connected to a PC to use its other capabilities such as changing ecu parameters and monitoring and testing the various inputs and outputs of the various ecus. Stand-alone it is a basic code reader.

I have one for the Puma, and have done a post on here showing some access screen shots of each module, it should give you an idea of its access on a Puma. The D4 version will have more module access to the relevant parts of a D4. I also did one on what diagnostic tool for a Puma on Defender2.net which shows more screen shots of the MSV2.

    Hi Redback,

I have one and a PC to link it to. I must admit I haven't even scratched the surface as far as my use of the unit. I have used it to put my D4 into tight tolorance mode for wheel alignment, and have also adjusted the std ( normal ( height setting ) towards the upper end of the variation allowed.

The base unit is pretty much as described , a very good faultreader and reset unit. You really do need the PC link to exploit the capability of the unit. It also makes the use of the unit a lot easier, navigation and data entry wise.

The data available is actually quite frightening, and it really is the knowledge of what the std settings are supposed to be and what the alternatives are and will do that becomes the limiting factor. ( for me at least )

I looked at the Haweye, and although the interface was easier to operate, more like a conventional test unit, it wasn't compatible with the D4 at the time. I am not aware if this has changed.

I suggest you have a good chat to Paul at Hardranger. I recommend you buy local as you will have more support on hand. The Blackbox forum may be cumbersome if you are chasing quick answers.

There are probably longer term users out there to offer more advice.

Thanks everyone, we are slowly learning what it does, we have been scrolling through the D3 UK site, more people on there seem to have it and are willing to tell other what it can do.

If we do go ahead with it, we will be definately buying it from Paul at Hardrange.

Hopefully soon it will have D4 ECU programming ability...

How are you getting along with your BlueFin? Did they get it sorted for you in the end Baz?

And as a side thought - What was your Cruise Control like before the upgrade?

We don't have the Bluefin, we are still standard at the moment, still looking into it, the CC has been like this since we picked up the car, fuel economy isn't the best either, but is improving slowly, we are looking into whether the car has all it's upgrades, Purnells have been very helpful with us in this regard.
