Ok you bought a fl2 which turned out to be a lemon, which corolla or commodore hasn't? I have seen plenty of fl2 going strong without any of your issues.

My advice. .just fix your issues and learn to love your LR..

Dana axle issues on grand cherokee

    Hi,
many years ago i had a Grand Cherokee as a company car.
The ride was bouncy mainly due to rear cart springs and useless soft front coils. The electrics were terrible. Gearbox hesitated between changes on hard acceleration.
Having said that it went like the wind and stopped even quicker !
The originator of this post should do some research as Jeep use or have used Dana axles that have "C" clips to hold the half shafts in on some models.
Mine was dealer serviced in the UK so one can only hope that these clips were changed at the correct times. If they are not changed it can under hard cornering lead to loss of a rear wheel. It has happened!
Not a good tow car at all.

My experience of this car, along with just about every other 4x4 on the market including a Dacia duster and something in Bali called a Kajang ??? led me to buy a 1994 Range rover Classic 3.9. In the 18 years i have owned it one thing has let me down. The fuel pump relay stopped working (probably worn out )

I have just been on a Cape York trip in a 1968 series 2a and apart from our wheel cylinders leaking (9 month old crap quality replacements) we had no issues. We did however see all makes and models of cars with problems.

Everything breaks eventually, and i'm convinced **** servicing/service parts are to blame, even some main dealers are not perfect.

    - replaced spindle in rear diff @ 30k
    - replaced fuel pump @ 60k
    - replaced alternator @ 80k
    - replaced hydraulic pump to power steering @ 82k
    - replaced rack & pinion steering @ 85k

On each of these occasions I sought assistance from Land Rover Australia but they simply were not interested in even discussing these problems - their after sales service has been atrocious to the point there is none.

In addition to the above problems I had Land Rover fit a tow bar so I could tow a light weight caravan, well this lead to one problem after another. Final price was over $3k and I should have purchased a better tow bar from Hayman Reece for less than $2k, so I have paid a premium to have Land Rover written on the tow bar. It was not only the cost but the size of the trailer ball mount which is 40mm compared to the standard Australian size of 50mm so I have been unable to purchase a trailer ball mount with a longer shank (required as LR set-up for the Freelander has the tow ball too close to the car).

All in all this car is absolutely junk and no improvement on those earlier Land Rover's that were plagued with problems.

I would urge anyone contemplating the purchase of a Land Rover to look elsewhere, there are much better cars at lower prices.
Sounds like you just bought the wrong Land Rover a late model tdi300 or td5 disco would have been the go.

I don't think so. The last reliability study that I saw had the Freelander 2 streets ahead of any other Land Rover product. In fact, its reliability index was better than Toyota as a brand. Of course, there were individual Toyota models with a better rating. The Land Rover brand rating as a whole was way down the bottom of the list.

Freelander 2 replacement disco sport has been showed off in the Paris motor show this week. .looks almost like current rr evoke..landy is starting to depart from traditional straight line design to curvy looks.

I still like my fl2, hopefully spare part availability wouldn't be an issue in thw future.

My 1994 VR Commodore has been the best car I ever bought. It's done 470,000 reliable km so far and is still going strong. Servicing is cheap and it is a very comfortable car to drive. I've towed cars on tandem trailers effortlessly so it should tow your light weight caravan easily.
Why Holden have decided to stop producing these great vehicles I'll never understand.
Do not think for a minute that I like to start a debate "my it is better than yours" but any of my Peugeot are heaps better than the Holden Inodoro.
And if that it is not enough the beer in Tasmania it is far better that any beer in the main land.

Is that why the FL2 has the Peugeot diesel in it?
