We overcame this by getting a large funnel with a hose running down to the ground.

Towards the last few years I went, scaffolding was becoming very popular and there was one next to us who had seen our idea of the **** funnel but what they did was ran the hose half way to the ground and then put a shower rose on the end of it.

In our early years one of our group was a telecom linesman and on the Saturday night using our scaffold ladder would go to the nearby pole that had the public address system on it and tapped into it running a cable across to our scaffold and connecting to a speaker that we bought with us.

Things like that changed with the crack down on things that might create issues for personal liability insurance, so pretty much anything thats fun.

We used to marvel at your structures, they were brilliant
We just camped up behind at McPhillamy, in the finish we had a massive multi-room tent, generator, fridges, lights, telly, etc. plus a setup at the corner (McPhillamy) with batteries, a telly, etc.

IIRC the biggest set up was Smarties Circus, that place was amazing.

    Ahh, those were the days

Its a bit dissapointing to see some of the purpose built circuits disappear to street circuits. Im not a big fan of the townsville race, dont like the track, not the hamilton one, ****ekoe (spelling?) was a good circuit.

Interesting to hear that the race was a delayed telecast on Channel 7 Seems they couldn't get enough adds in so time creep was utilised.

    A bit disappointing really.

Yeah, we got home just as Lowndes was finishing the race, and we left just as the came past us at Hell Corner after finishing their last lap.

The demise of permanent circuits affects genuine motor sport badly. There are fewer and fewer locations available for club level motor sport.

The street circuits will always be made available by governments for the TV $ driven entertainment such as V8 Super Cars which I regard as show business not motor sport.

You are right Brian, but unless V8 Supercars is run in such as fashion, just like F1, its hard for them to compete with NRL, AFL, Tennis, Cricket etc etc for media time.

V8 Supercars is a road show, and you are right it is show business to an extent, but if V8 Supercars wants their slice of the wedge then they need to be organised in this way. It wasnt until V8's was run this way that we got the telecasts pretty much live on a weekend, as opposed to a highlights real the weekend after when it was convenient for the network. V8 Supercars now has a following big enough to get networks to bother. Take the New Zealand round a few years back. The race was cut short because the network had to cut to the telecast of the AFL. There was such an uproar about that incident that it changed how the network did things so it didnt happen again. V8 Supercars is now a legitimate sport in this country and gone are the days where it was just for yobos and dickheads.

Having said this people like Tony Cochrane need to spare a thought for club level events and the talent these events create for the main game.

Anybody know the about the "CLOUD" over ownership of DJR,it was mentioned a couple of times over the weekends commentry, without a story.
Dick Johnson wasnt shown on tv all weekend wich is very unlike Dick.
One comment made was the boys at DJR are putting it all out of there minds for the weekend and concentrating on Bathurst.
No mention of anything over here in the press.

It wasnt mentioned around here Andy, didnt hear a thing, its difficult to keep things like that a secret, but they seem to be managing to do just that.
