visa has less charges than amex usually when US$ is involved..
5 x BFG AT 215/75R15 tyres turned up today. Funds cleared on 12/11/10.
$855 delivered. Bit better than the cheapest local @ $1255.
just ordered 5 x wrangler silent armour 245/75 16's for the disco from tirerack, $1238 delivered. These are a pro grade (meant to be tougher) Only $140 more expensive than the "cheapest" tyre I could find localy. They have a huge range of brands and sizes and are very easy to deal with. :D
I recently imported 11.00 x 18 Military bar tread tyres from the States for a 1941 Ford/Marmon Herrington Gun Tractor I am restoring. Found 'as new' tyres fitted to Gamma Goat rims from a scrap dealer in Utah. As they were second hand I needed an Import Permit from AQIS. They only needed to be still fitted to rims and have a declaration from the exporter that they were still sealed on rims and had been washed. I just had them freighted to a depot in California and loaded on a container and picked them up from Brocks Autos in Lilydale. I bought in 8 initially and kept one set and sold the other set so quick that I bought in another 33. The freight works out to about $550 per cubic metre. Permits and deals were all done on line. Very easy.
