Thread: Question about Sydney traffic jams at Pacific Hwy

Travelling to Nth Ryde/Macquarie Park from any direction is becoming a bigger nightmare as more companies locate to this so-called Technology Precinct. The Epping/Chatswood rail link has taken many commuters off the road but inadequate road planning for the massive growth projections in the area will probably limit the final size however.

From north of the Hawkesbury the F3/Pennant Hills Rd/Beecroft Rd/M2 (toll) route is more costly and slower than the Pennant Hills Rd/Comenara Parkway crawl to Ryde Rd. From the Manly-Warringah area or upper North Shore the Pacific Highway/Mona Vale Rd/Ryde Rd is just as congested. It is no better from the South up to Top Ryde.

If you have an allocated parking space and can negotiate flexible work times so as to travel before or after the Peak traffic times that may work. For most of the year get a ticket for train travel - pre-purchased longer duration tickets get cheaper. As Max said changing at Hornsby is simple.

You can use your vehicle during School Holidays as traffic density drops remarkably (the RTA seem oblivious to this).

Depending on your budget and expectations an area that may be worth investigating is Carlingford/Dundas/Eastwood. That gives a straight run along Carlingford Rd and then Epping Rd and may fit in with a marginally flexible work time.

Hi Carlos - what were the things you most noticed or impressed you compared to Spain?

Re your original topic - I did 3 years in Sydney and whilst I loved living there, coming back to Adelaide was a whole lot more relaxing (although the pay cut wasn't so welcome). I had to tackle Victoria Road into Sydney from Woolwich/Hunters Hill, which isn't the best way to start your days.

I regularly use the trains to get to work so Take my word , drive to Berrowra Station and park your car there and catch the train , get off at Hornsby and change over to City / central via Macquarie park . soon you'll arrive at Macquarie park and your work stress free , the traffic grid lock will do your head in.

We moved out of Sydney to the Mtns 10 years ago to get away from the Sydney traffic ... brace yourself!

if you can travel to work before 730 and be on the road home before 3pm, you will miss most of the traffic, except on Fridays.
i know this may not be practical for you, but it works for me.
i travel from the northern beaches to the city nearly every day. may day can start at any time between 5am and 8am, regardless of this, i am always on the road by 6am, any later and the half hour trip turns into a 1 +1/2 hour trip.
another trick can be to use the road that follows the railway, it can be often quicker than the pacific hwy.

Get a place to live in the area, Epping, Eastwood and Ryde are very nice (great Rugby team also)
